The Medium, A New Next-Gen Horror Game, Might Be Silent Hill's Spiritual Successor
Yesterday, Xbox hosted their digital Inside Xbox event, which showcased a number of interesting (and some not so interesting) titles coming to their next-gen console, Xbox Series X. However, among the mixed bag of announcements, one stood out that caught the attention of plenty of survival horror fans who are still patiently waiting for the fate of Silent Hill. Bloober Team, the developers behind Layers of Fear and Blair Witch, announced The Medium, a new psychological horror game in the vein of the aforementioned Silent Hill.

In The Medium, players take control of a medium named Marianne, who is able to receive visions from both the world of the living and the spirit world. She finds herself in Krakow, Poland, where a terrible tragedy had taken place. Using her wits and abilities to hop between worlds, Marianne must solve an age-old mystery. The game was revealed at Inside Xbox with a mixed CGI and gameplay trailer, showcasing the power of next-gen consoles but also providing us with a lot of creepy and effective visuals.
The Medium's trailer immediately grabbed our attention when we first heard the music, which sounded familiar to fans of the horror genre. It was revealed that Akira Yamaoka, the legendary composer behind the Silent Hill franchise, would be aiding Bloober Team's own Arkadiusz Reikowski in composing the score for The Medium. This is quite an exciting prospect because Yamaoka's last Silent Hill game was Shattered Memories, and it's been almost a decade since he worked on an exciting new horror title. Above all, we can't wait to hear the music of The Medium and experience all that awaits in the town of Krakow.
The Medium is expected to launch in late 2020 for current-gen and next-gen consoles.
