The fight against cancer is continuing beyond the halls of Comic Con Africa 2026, with Shoma Govender extending her Game Over Cancer Fundraiser until 14 October. The annual celebration of gaming, pop culture and geek culture once again brought South Africa's community together, and this year, Nexus Hub used its presence at the event to help shine a spotlight on an important cause alongside Mrs. South Africa finalist Shoma Govender.

The fundraiser, which aims to raise awareness and support for cancer, received a significant boost during Comic Con Africa, with attendees given the opportunity to learn more about Shoma's initiative and contribute to the cause. Attendees also got to directly meet and interact with Shoma as she attended the convention. With the campaign now extended, there is still time for the wider gaming and geek community to get involved.

For Shoma, Comic Con Africa was about far more than simply attending one of South Africa's biggest pop culture events:
"Comic Con was so much more than an event to me. It was a journey filled with unforgettable memories, meaningful conversations, and incredible people who reminded me what true community looks like. To everyone who stopped by, shared a moment, offered words of encouragement, donated, supported my initiative, or simply believed in me, thank you. Your support has meant the world to me and has given me the strength to keep pushing forward.
A very special thank you to Nexus Hub. I honestly don't have the words to fully express how grateful I am. None of this would have been possible without you. From the very beginning, you believed in me, in my vision, and in what Game Over Cancer stands for. When others saw an idea, you saw potential. When I had doubts, you gave me confidence."

"From the bottom of my heart, thank you for giving me this opportunity and for standing by me every step of the way. Game Over Cancer is not just a project or an initiative; it's a mission to make a difference, bring hope, and create real impact. Because of your support, that mission became a reality.
I will be forever grateful for your belief in me, your kindness, and your unwavering support. The success of Game Over Cancer belongs to all of us, and the impact we've made together is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Thank you for helping turn a dream into something truly meaningful."

As a Mrs. South Africa finalist, Shoma has been using her platform to champion causes beyond the pageant itself, and Game Over Cancer has already made a meaningful impact. The initiative has raised more than R60,000 for CANSA, demonstrating just how much can be achieved when a community gets behind a worthwhile cause.

Nexus Hub has also played an important role in bringing the initiative to the gaming and geek community, giving Game Over Cancer a platform at Comic Con Africa and helping connect the campaign with an audience that gathers around games, entertainment and shared passions.
Now, the campaign is getting a little more time to reach its goal. Nexus Hub is proud to announce that the Game Over Cancer Fundraiser has officially been extended until 14 October, giving supporters another opportunity to contribute to Shoma's campaign and help raise further awareness around cancer.
Donation tickets can be purchased for R50 through Shoma Govender's website as well as Nexus Hub.
