What is that I hear all over social media that GW is dropping Space Marine in the new edition as a stand alone army, to a detachment type unit that can be added to any Terra army, very much the same as the Grey Knights?

Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil Projected to Hit Franchise-Record Opening Weekend

The upcoming Resident Evil movie from Weapons director Zach Cregger is rushing towards its release on 18 September (or 25 September if you live in South Africa). Despite debates online from a vocal portion of the fanbase claiming Cregger is disrespecting the source material or excluding fan-favourite characters, it isn’t stopping the movie’s momentum to score big at the box office, with first projections claiming it’s about to hit a franchise-record opening weekend.

Reported by Deadline, Resident Evil is set to make between $35-$50 million at the US domestic box office on opening day alone, which would make it the biggest opening of any Resident Evil movie thus far. If the international tickets are as successful, Resident Evil could finish its opening weekend with over $100 million, though we’ll have to wait and see if it has legs.

Cregger’s Resident Evil movie follows an organ courier named Bryan (Austin Abrams) who is tasked with taking a mysterious package to Raccoon City General Hospital. As it turns out, this is the same night that the T-virus outbreak occurs in the city, and Bryan must fight for survival to get the job done. The movie doesn’t directly adapt any of the existing video games, rather telling its own unique story from the perspective of a new character.

We can expect early reactions and reviews to roll in, in the coming weeks. For now, there’s a lot of hope in the community that Cregger will finally get the formula right. Judging by what we’ve seen in previous trailers, it’s definitely staying true to the spirit of the games.

In related gaming news, a new rumour claims the upcoming DLC for Resident Evil Requiem will revisit the Spencer Mansion from the first game.
