For Mrs South Africa finalist, Shoma Govender, the journey towards the crown has become about far more than a title. Driven by a belief in resilience, authenticity and using her voice to create meaningful change, Govender is using her public Mrs South Africa platform to launch Game Over Cancer - an officially recognised fundraising initiative in support of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).
The campaign allows members of the public to make a donation for only R50.00 to stand a chance to win a share of tech and gaming sponsored prizes, while supporting CANSA’s care and support programs, advocacy and education initiatives.

Behind the campaign is a cause that is deeply personal to Govender. Cancer touched her own life through her father who was a cancer patient. Witnessing his journey gave her firsthand insight into the challenges faced not only by the patients, but also by the families who walk alongside them.
“I chose CANSA because cancer has touched my life in a very personal way,” says Govender. “My dad was a cancer patient, and witnessing his journey gave me a deeper understanding of the emotional, physical and financial challenges that patients and their families face.” Through Game Over Cancer, she hopes to reach out and support others going through the same experience. “For me, Game Over Cancer is about turning pain into purpose,” she says. “It is about creating a community where people feel seen, supported, and empowered.”
A Platform For Purpose

Govender entered the Mrs South Africa pageant with a desire to challenge herself, grow as a woman, and use her voice to make a meaningful impact. For her, the competition represents more than the pursuit of a title - it is an opportunity to stand alongside other women who lead with purpose, compassion and courage, while encouraging people to embrace their own stories and believe in themselves and their capability to overcome.
Her own journey has been shaped by both triumphs and challenges, teaching her the importance of resilience and continuing to show up - even when life feels challenging.
