We've recently been exploring how long it would take you to watch certain anime, if your'e curious about how much time you're about to spend on a show. We just covered some of the most popular longest-running shonen anime like One Piece and Bleach, so now we're tackling a handful of the most popular modern anime including Attack on Titan, Mob Psycho 100 and more.
Attack on Titan (2013 - 2023)
Studio: Wit Studio (Seasons 1-3); MAPPA (Season 4)

Attack on Titan follows Eren Jaeger, a young boy who witnesses his mother’s death at the hands of what is known as a ‘titan’, a gigantic, humanoid-looking monster that eats humans. He then swears to help free humanity from the titan threat by eradicating every last one, joining a specialised military unit known as the Survey Corps to do so.
This series is well-known across the internet for having one of the most unexpected character developments for its main character, Eren. As a result, it has led to many discussions about what could have been the better choice, as well as considering how mental health can affect choices, especially considering Eren’s age.
Attack on Titan has a total of 4 seasons (also well-known for its inability to actually release its true final season), with a total of 87 episodes, each with a runtime of 24 minutes, as well as 8 OVAs with the same runtime. The season 4 finale episodes have respective runtimes of 61 and 84 minutes. The runtime of the seasons leads to a total watch time of just over 37 hours. If you add in the 8 OVAs, that time increases to just under 40 and a half hours, which is 1 full 24-hour day and 16 and a half hours of watch time. There are also 2 movies which are just re-edits of the seasons (and function as ‘previously on’ episodes) that are also available to be watched.
Attack on Titan is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
My Hero Academia (2016 - 2025; special episode 2026)
Studio: Bones (Seasons 1-7); Bones Film (Season ![]()

Possibly one of the longest running modern anime, My Hero Academia is about a quirkless boy, Izuku Midoriya, in a world of quirks who dreams of becoming a hero. A typical good versus evil overarching plot, some of the sub plots deal with many different kinds of mental illness, like Izuku’s self-worth, Katsuki’s inferiority complex and constant self-comparison to Izuku, and many more. More than being a superhero anime, it also portrays fighting your inner demons and obtaining growth from it.
My Hero Academia has 8 seasons with a total of 164 episodes, each with a runtime of 24 minutes each. This leads to a total episode watch time of 65 and a half hours, or just under three 24-hour days. A special episode was released in May 2026, which adds an extra 24 minutes to the total watch time. If you really want to get invested, there are 4 movies, as well as a variety of special episodes that will keep you occupied for at least another day or two.
The full 8 seasons of My Hero Academia can be streamed on Crunchyroll, while 7 seasons are available on Netflix SA. The movie My Hero Academia: You’re Next is available on both Crunchyroll and Netflix SA, while the movies My Hero Academia: Two Heroes and My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising is available on Crunchyroll.
Dr. STONE (2019 - 2026)
Studio: TMS Entertainment

An unknown green light leaves humanity encased in stone, and thousands of years later, genius boy scientist Senku Ishigami is released to find all traces of humanity have deteriorated or vanished, and nature has reclaimed the world. So begins his journey to revive humanity and all its achievements while making use of primitive technology to achieve modern results. One such example is making medicine from scratch to treat a case of pneumonia.
Dr. STONE consists of 94 episodes over 4 seasons with a special OVA. Each episode (except the special episode) runs for a total of 24 minutes, leading to a total runtime of 37 and a half hours, which is about a full 24-hour day and 13 and a half hours. If you add in the 54 minute runtime of the special episode, it’s an additional hour, so a full 24-hour day and 14 and a half hours.
Dr. STONE can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
Fire Force (2019 - 2026)
Studio: David Production

Fire Force is well-known for its take on spontaneous human combustion by making it a common occurrence in the show that can happen at any time to anyone, and turning it into something that causes humans to lose all sense of self when it happens to them. The show follows Shinra Kusakabe, a third-generation pyrokinetic rookie firefighter who joins the Special Fire Force in order to save people while finding out what caused his mother and younger brother’s deaths.
The show only has a complete total of 3 seasons, but each season surprisingly went for a total of 24 episodes per season, which is highly unusual in today’s current anime climate, with most anime stopping at 12 or 13 episodes a season.
Fire Force comes in with a total of 73 episodes across its 3 seasons, each with a runtime of 24 minutes per episode. This places the total hour count at just over 29 hours, a full 24-hour day and just over 5 hours to complete the series.
Fire Force can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma (2015 - 2020)
Studio: J.C.Staff

Food Wars tells the story of Soma Yukihira, an aspiring and gifted chef whose goal is to surpass his father’s cooking with his own. In order to do this, he signs up at the elite cooking school, Totsuki Culinary Academy, his father’s alma mater. What makes Totsuki Academy different from other cooking schools is that disputes are resolved through cooking battles known as “food wars” or “shokugeki”.
Food Wars consists of 5 seasons with a total of 87 episodes and 5 OVAs, each with a runtime of 24 minutes. This means that the total number of hours you’ll spend watching is close to 37 hours, which is a full 24-hour day, and almost 13 hours.
Food Wars! seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix SA, while seasons 3 to 5 can be found on Crunchyroll, along with the OVAs.
Mob Psycho 100 (2016 - 2022)
Studio: Bones

Mob Psycho 100 follows the not-so-average average middle-schooler Shigeo Kageyama, or Mob, as he learns how to manage his psychic powers from the well-meaning con-man Arataka Reigen, and not let his emotions influence them. In this world, the power of psychics is used to fight and exorcise evil spirits, demons, and ghosts, hence con-man Arataka Reigen’s involvement with Mob (but he means well). The animation style is a bit out there and different to standard anime art styles, but the strangeness of the animation adds to the overall charm and humour of the series.
Mob Psycho 100 has a total of 3 seasons and is likely the shortest series on this list. There is a total of 37 episodes with a 24 minute runtime each, as well as 2 OVAs, which is just over 16 hours, meaning this is one of the few completed anime that you can binge in an entire day, should you start early or finish late enough.
Mob Psycho 100 is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
All episode counts and runtimes are taken from their respective streaming sites.
