Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 has passed, delivering yet another stacked show filled to the brim with world premieres, announcements, and updates. While there were a handful of surprises in store for viewers, we’ve decided to pick five of the best announcements from the event that stood out to us the most, including the whiplash ending with The Witcher 3 Remastered.

The Witcher 3 Remastered is… Free? And The DLCs Too?

CD Projekt Red is in the process of its redemption arc and one of the biggest steps the studio has taken happened last night, when it not only announced The Witcher 3 Remastered – a pretty substantial upgrade over the original game – would be coming next month but it would be free for all owners of The Witcher 3. Furthermore, CD Projekt Red also made both Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine, the game’s two previous expansions, completely free as well.

If you somehow haven’t purchased The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on any platform, you can still do so before the remaster at pretty reasonable prices on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Even a second-hand copy will do.



Warlock isn’t The Dungeons & Dragons We Know, But it’s The One We Want

Wizards of the Coast and developer Invoke Studios debuted the first gameplay trailer for its upcoming third-person action-adventure game, Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons. This might’ve been one of the biggest surprises of the show since we didn’t expect to see such a polished, promising announcement for a new DnD game (let alone a single-player game). Granted, it’s nothing like DnD’s core gameplay with its real-time combat and infinite pool of creative and awesome spellcasting, but what was shown was very impressive. And hey, it also has Lady D’s voice actress, Maggie Robertson. That’s always a win.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons doesn’t have a release date yet but it’s coming to consoles and PC sometime in 2027.



Mariachi Legends Combines Metroidvania and With Striking Hades-Inspired Visuals

One of the most underrated reveals of Gamescom Opening Night Live (that unforgivably happened in the pre-show, not the main show) was Mariachi Legends, a side-scrolling Metroidvania action game that borrows the fast-paced combat and labyrinthian exploration of Castlevania with character designs that seem to be lifted straight out of Hades. An interview with the game’s director shed some light on its earnest inspirations and Mexican culture, and it’s one to definitely keep an eye on.

Mariachi Legends is scheduled to release on 23 April 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch. It will also release day one on Xbox Game Pass.



Crimson Desert Gets Enhanced With Even More Content Somehow

While Crimson Desert was a hot seller when it released earlier this year, many players felt like it still needed a number of improvements. Developer Pearl Abyss is listening very closely because last night, the studio unveiled Crimson Desert Enhanced, and it’s more than just a small facelift. In fact, the 2.0 update is fairly large (33GB to be precise) because it contains more story content (on top of plenty of content already), tweaked dialogue, a refined narrative to create a smoother flow, and much-needed overall improvements in important areas.

Rather than releasing expansions or DLC, Pearl Abyss wanted to strengthen the existing game and I think this might be the right time to give it another go, if you weren’t sold on it originally. The update is available right now on all platforms.



Path of Exile 2’s 1.0 Release is Coming This Year and it’s Free-to-Play

The Diablo-esque action-RPG, Path of Exile 2, is finally getting out of its two-year early access period with a full 1.0 release coming this December. The original game was widely touted as Diablo’s biggest rival and the sequel, while rough around the edges, showed plenty of promise. Now Path of Exile 2 will get to prove itself with a final version. If you’re looking for fast-paced isometric combat and some of the deepest class customisation and progression systems in gaming, keep this on your radar.

Path of Exile 2 will release on 11 December for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Most of all, it will be a free-to-play game.
