With so many movie releases and productions being affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and plans being put in place to ensure a steady opening of movie theaters globally, the Hollywood film industry remains at a stand-still for now. Some studios have announced plans to release films on streaming services, but for the most part, major blockbusters are still leaning on theatrical releases like Christopher Nolan's Tenet right now. However, Sony Pictures has announced that they won't be releasing any major releases theatrically until the pandemic is over.

Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman Tony Vinciquerra made a statement at Bank of America’s 2020 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, confirming that the studio won't release any of their big movies in cinemas until the current COVID-19 pandemic is over, and it's safe for theaters to resume business operationally. "What we won’t do is make the mistake of putting a very, very expensive $200 million movie out in the market unless we’re sure that theaters are open and operating at significant capacity," said Vinciquerra. "You’ll see a lot of strange things happen over the next six months in how films are released, how they’re scheduled, how they’re marketed, but once we get back to normal, we will have learned a lot I think and found ways to do things that are somewhat different and hopefully better."
