Shoma Govender's Game Over Cancer campaign has reached another milestone, with Nexus Hub announcing the winners of the fundraiser launched by the Mrs. South Africa finalist in support of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). What started as a personal mission to raise awareness and support those affected by cancer has grown into a community-driven initiative, bringing together South Africa’s gaming and tech communities for a cause that reaches far beyond the games we play.
For Govender, Game Over Cancer has always been about turning personal experiences into something meaningful. Having witnessed her father’s journey as a cancer patient, she wanted to help other patients and families facing similar challenges. Through her Mrs. South Africa platform, she has used her passion for gaming and technology to raise funds, encourage conversations around cancer, and remind people that nobody should have to face the disease alone.

The campaign brought supporters together through several initiatives, including a board game day hosted by Starlight Hangar at Nexus Hub, which welcomed more than 50 attendees, and an appearance at Comic Con Africa 2026. With donation tickets offering supporters the chance to win gaming and tech prizes, the initiative raised more than R60,000 for CANSA. The fundraiser was subsequently extended until 14 October following its success at Comic Con Africa, giving the community another opportunity to contribute.
Before announcing the winners, Nexus Hub would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported Shoma Govender and the Game Over Cancer campaign. From those who purchased donation tickets to the people who helped spread awareness and participated in the events, every contribution helped bring the initiative closer to its goal. A special thank you also goes to MSI Notebooks, the headline sponsor of Shoma’s campaign, for its continued support, alongside the sponsors and partners who helped make the fundraiser possible.
