Forza Horizon 5 Reportedly Releases in 2021
Xbox's Forza racing series, which comprises of the mainline Motorsport games and Playground's Horizon series, has been a critical darling for the gaming giant, and also a big system-seller for them. The Forza Horizon series has gone on to arguably eclipse the popularity of the Forza Motorsport series in recent years, with both Horizon 3 and Horizon 4 doing incredibly well critically and commercially. However, with developer Playground Games continuing to expand their horizons (no pun intended) with the upcoming Fable, it looks like they're about ready to dive back into their racing series again.

According to VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb, who has been a very reliable industry insider and source of accurate leaks in the past, Forza Horizon 5 might release in 2021, developed by Playground Games. Grubb also teased that he knew the setting, but refrained from saying anything further. "We saw Forza Motorsport get teased a few months ago. I think we might get the next Forza Horizon game first and I think that may be coming this coming year," said Grubb on a recent episode of The Xbox Empire podcast. "So yeah, I think they're in a weird situation where, for some reason, Playground does seem like they may be ready to go first [before Forza Motorsport]. And I think I know the setting, but I'm going to let them announce it."
Xbox announced at their first-party focused event this year that the next mainline Forza Motorsport game is well in development, but it could be a while before we actually got to play it on Xbox Series X/S. However, with the possibility of Forza Horizon 5 launching as early as next year, it may be enough for Xbox to thrive in their new console's early years as it marks a big exclusive release for them. Furthermore, it could entice buyers to look towards the Xbox Series X as, at the moment, Microsoft's new generation console is currently lacking in compelling launch titles and year-one exclusives compared to PlayStation, who have a sleuth of massive AAA exclusives releasing throughout 2021.
Forza Horizon 5 is reportedly in development and releases next year.
