With October here, that means only one thing: spooky season has arrived! In the lead-up to Halloween, it seems only fitting that we discuss a number of different anime that represent the spooky spirit of the holiday, as much as we don’t really celebrate it.

Below are 10 witchy anime that you should watch this spooky season:

Witch Hat Atelier
Studio: BUG FILMS

One of the most anticipated anime of 2026, Witch Hat Atelier follows Coco, a young girl who accidentally turns her mother into a crystal rock using forbidden magic, and Qifrey, the witch who decides to take Coco in as an apprentice and help her restore her mother. With beautiful animation and a compelling storyline, it is evident that the hype around this anime was not for nothing. While season 1 does end on a cliffhanger, season 2 has been confirmed to be in production.

Witch Hat Atelier is available to stream on Crunchyroll.

Watch time: 13 episodes of 24 minutes each – 5 hours and a bit.

Secrets of the Silent Witch
Studio: Studio Gokumi

Secrets of the Silent Witch follows Monica Everett, a shy witch with severe social anxiety who became one of the (youngest) Seven Sages of her kingdom for developing the ability to cast silent spells, a feat that had not yet been achieved – all to avoid chanting in front of others! One day she is ordered to come out from her reclusion to watch over the second prince of the kingdom, while keeping her identity as the Silent Witch a secret.

The show follows the two as they go through life dealing with various supernatural beings and the unpredictable side effects Nico’s magic causes.

WITCH WATCH is available to stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix.

The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch

As a virtually magicless girl, Spica Virgo dreams of entering the prestigious Royal Diana Academy for magic, where her role model Claude Sirius once taught before he disappeared. One day, she finds a talking black cat, and excited, asks it to teach her to use magic. Puella Magi Madoka Magica
and Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story
Studio: Shaft

I think any list about witches would be incomplete without mentioning Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The series follows friends Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki whose lives change when they sign contracts that give them magical girl powers in exchange for them fighting witches. However, it is well-known that “with great power comes great responsibility”, and the girls must deal with the grave consequences and danger to their loved ones from their newfound powers.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story was originally a spin-off game that released in 2017, and was later made into an anime series that premiered in 2020. It follows Iroha Tamaki, a magical girl who can’t remember the wish she made to become a magical girl, as she sets off to the city of Kamihama in search of answers.
