@Richter

I do recommend Replicant. But the original PS3 release is something I have a massive soft spot for. I bought it on release and it looked kind of dated and didn't look great.

But the story and especially the soundtrack is what blew me away. What an amazing game till this day. Except grinding my ass off for the platinum to upgrade all my weapons.

They did make the grinding easier in Replicant. I highly recommend it, you're going to love it.

Ubisoft Explains RPG Mechanics in Far Cry New Dawn

by Sam Aberdeen on 22 January, 2019

Far Cry New Dawn ended up being a surprise when it was first unveiled at The Game Awards 2018, and has received a positive response from fans of the series' more crazier aspects. The post-apocalyptic game, set after the events of a certain ending in Far Cry 5, promises old school Far Cry mayhem in a vivid, gorgeous open world. With a new title - or rather massive expansion - in the franchise comes new mechanics too.

Ubisoft, in a developer Q&A, explained Far Cry New Dawn's light RPG mechanics, specifically how weapons and outpost liberations will work this time around. According to the game's creative director, Jean-Sebastien Decant, the weapon crafting system will have some layers to it. "You’ll be able to craft guns that have ranks, and these guns will be useful to fight against enemies that also have ranks," said Decant.

It seems like Ubisoft is paying attention to how weapons won't just be a means to kill countless enemies, but will also be a vital tactical tool in disposing them depending on what kind of weapon you'll be able to craft. Players will also now have a home base in New Dawn that will, depending on how much you upgrade it, allow you to unlock more efficient upgrades; a surprising first for the series.

By far, the most interesting aspect is how Ubisoft is tackling outpost liberations. In the past, liberating an outpost was simply a task of eliminating all targets within the area. Now, you're given the option to either occupy it - which will allow NPCs to move into the outpost and maintain its resources - or squeeze it, which means you get a large sum of money upfront, but it leaves your outpost open to attacks from opposing factions.

This is a smart move as it now gives purpose to outposts, but also gives you the option of maintaining resources, or simply go in guns blazing for a large payday. If attacking factions take your outpost, it will incentivize players to return to the outpost and retake it for themselves. Let's hope this is used sparingly, as this particular feature did become cumbersome after a while in Fallout 4. Thanks, Preston Garvey, but I'd rather not help another settlement.

Far Cry New Dawn launches on February 15, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
