Spyro the Dragon Trilogy remaster possibly confirmed
It looks like we could be seeing a revamped Spyro the Dragon Trilogy in Q3 of 2018 as a PS4 exclusive.
According to Kotaku UK, Activision will be making the announcement in March 2018 and will feature Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Activision received a taste of what happens when you trigger gamer’s nostalgia, following the extremely successful Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, so it looks like we could be seeing more childhood memories getting a remodel.
The remaster will reportedly have enhanced lighting, new animations and cinematics, an overhauled soundtrack, a revamped saved system, and PS4 Pro support, which we assume will mean possible 4K support.
It seems that Sony has also signed a one-year exclusivity agreement regarding the Spyro Trilogy, after which we could see a multi-platform release. Sony also signed a similar agreement with the N. Sane Trilogy, which is coming to the end, so we could see Crash on other platforms later this year.
Vicarious Visions, the Activision-owned studio who was responsible for the N. Sane Trilogy, is reportedly heading up the Spyro remaster. If the report is correct, then the release will be around the 20-year anniversary of Spyro the Dragon, which makes it all the more tantalising.
