NetherRealm reveals first Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay
During the Mortal Kombat 11 reveal event last night, NetherRealm blessed us with official gameplay footage and an official fatalities trailer. The footage showcases the new gore engine, with Mortal Kombat 11’s emphasis on blood effects.
The reveal event also showed us who to expect in the upcoming fighter from NetheRealm Studios, and long-running staples of the franchise make a return in the form of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, and Sonya Blade (now voiced by Ronda Rousey). A new character, Geras, was also showcased, displaying his time-bending prowess.
Two characters in particular that had me the most excited, are Mortal Kombat 9’s Skarlet, and sword-arm Baraka. Skarlet’s blood-bending move-set is not just gory but exemplifies the Mortal Kombat spirit.
The reveal event gave us a glimpse into the character customisation, using the same gear system as that found in Injustice 2. The new combat mechanics were unveiled as well, showing off the new Fatal Blows system, separate meters for offensive and defensive moves, and Flawless Blocks.
Of course, new Fatalities were also shown, and they’re more brutal and gory than ever. Do yourself a favour, and just watch the video below for all gruesome finishers. Finally, the Mortal Kombat 11 Kollector’s Edition was shown, featuring a golden Scorpion mask, and NetherRealm confirmed the MK11 Beta, available on the 28th of March.
Mortal Kombat 11 releases on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC on the 23rd of April, with a Switch release in May.
