French electronic music duo Daft Punk were reportedly pitched to do the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto VI before another French music duo, Justice, officially stepped in. While Daft Punk announced their retirement in 2021, the soundtrack for GTA VI would’ve been seen as a “final comeback” moment for them.

That’s according to Has It Leaked, a reputable leaker with a recently established track record, who claims that Rockstar Games apparently approached Daft Punk’s management with an “unlimited budget” for the duo to make the soundtrack for GTA VI. Justice was always going to be the second choice and it seems like Daft Punk might’ve turned the offer down.

That said, one-half of Daft Punk, the golden-masked Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, does make an appearance as a producer on the Travis Scott song “RHYNO” that will appear on the GTA VI sooundtrack. Justice will officially be producing the rest of the soundtrack and the duo’s new single, “Flower in a Hurricane” featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, debuted alongside the launch trailer for the game last week.

Daft Punk, best known for producing some of the most iconic songs in dance music like “Around the World”, “One More Time” and “Harder Better Faster Stronger”, were major inspirations for Justice so the GTA VI soundtrack has come full circle somewhat, even if the famous robot DJs ultimately turned it down.

Rockstar Games has already revealed a handful of radio stations that will be featured in GTA VI including hosts like Bad Bunny, Slayer and Burna Boy. Many would argue that the personality of GTA games boils down to how good its soundtrack is, and in this case, GTA: Vice City’s eclectic mix of 80s rock, pop and dance might be the most recognisable in the entire series – so it’s important that GTA VI also sticks the landing on its music. So far, they’re doing a pretty good job.

GTA VI launches on 19 November 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
