Reviews for Dawnwalker are really good considering it’s rare for first time dev studios (even with vets) to put a game scoring in that meta score range. Might still wait out a few patches but seems like it won’t disappoint

12TB of Steam Files Leak Exposing a Decade of Game Data and Beta Builds

Around 12TB worth of data has been extracted from Steam, encompassing everything published on the platform between 2003 and 2013. This includes game data for most of its popular titles like Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead, Portal 2, and even pre-release beta builds of these games.

The leak has been made publicly available via a [censored] file, containing 12TB of game data for titles released on Steam between 2003 and 2013. Valve transitioned to a different storage system in 2013, which explains the abrupt cut-off that year. Nonetheless, the massive leak contains beta builds for hundreds of games including Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Dragon Age: Origins, to name a few.

Assuming you have a whopping 12TB of free storage space and/or work for NASA, you can browse through the catalogue of games including their pre-release and final builds. The files are uncompressed which explains the massive size of the leak. The catalogue isn’t just limited to Valve’s first-party games but plenty of third-party games too that we’ll surely learn about in the coming days.

It’s unclear how this leak suddenly happened or where it originated from, but Valve content creator Gabe Follower claims the data was grabbed from a publicly accessible endpoint and obtaining these files required no actual hacking.

Those who managed to dig through the files have found some interesting things, such as an early build of Left 4 Dead which features a different HUD, unreleased voice lines that were never featured in the final version, and sections of the map that would later be altered and changed before release. The same applies to several other games in the leak, though curious gamers are currently digging through them to find all the hidden gems.

Valve may have its hands tied with the Steam Machine right now, so the company hasn’t provided an official statement on the leak yet. If you’re curious about the leaks, you can find them easily enough on various [censored] sites right now.

I'm sure the IP owners are not impressed but I love these leaks for preservation and a look into the development process. Would also be curious to learn the narrative trajectory of Half-life 2: Episode 3 before Half-life: Alyx introduced a narrative loophole to continue the story.
