Spider-Man: Brand New Day Earns Massive $927 Million on Opening Weekend
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has shattered expectations at the box office over its opening weekend, earning a massive $927 million globally from three-day ticket sales. This makes it the second-largest opening weekend of all time, trailing behind Avengers: Endgame’s $1.2 billion.
As reported by Variety, Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned $927 million worldwide at the box office over the weekend, with $355 million coming from domestic ticket sales. It’s now one of the highest-earning MCU films of all time in a short time span, even surpassing the opening weekend numbers for its predecessor, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and tentpole Marvel movies like Avengers: Infinity War.
Spider-Man’s return to the big screen was met with positive reviews as well. Over on the review aggregate website RottenTomatoes, it currently sits with a 90% critic approval rating and a huge 98% from verified audiences. When the early reviews first dropped, many praised the movie’s stylish action sequences and emotional storytelling involving Peter Parker’s isolation and loneliness following the events of No Way Home, which resulted in all of his friends forgetting he ever existed.
In related MCU news, Marvel Studios recently dropped the first trailer for the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, set to release in cinemas this December. However, it was met with a divisive reception online, with many stating that the trailer failed to generate any of the same hype that Infinity War or Endgame built up. Marvel boss Kevin Feige responded to criticisms from audiences that Doctor Doom wasn’t as built-up as Thanos in the first three phases of the MCU.

“A forgotten Peter Parker lives alone as a full-time Spider-Man until mounting pressure triggers a dangerous change and a powerful new enemy emerges.”
