UPDATE: Xbox South Africa has officially revealed that the Xbox Series S will cost R6999 in South Africa. This comes in light of the console officially being revealed internationally, with a price point of $299 / £249.

ORIGINAL STORY: Yesterday, after a series of leaks forced their hand, Microsoft finally unveiled the Xbox Series S, their second, budget-friendly next-gen console releasing alongside the Xbox Series X. The price point was also revealed to be a surprisingly low $299, certainly making it one of the more enticing options come holiday 2020. Windows Central did leak a few other details, including the Xbox Series X console costing $499, though this hasn't been confirmed yet by Microsoft. However, they also dropped the release date of November 10th - something which has now been confirmed by Xbox themselves.

Xbox released a reveal trailer for the Xbox Series S, diving into its specs and form factor. However, they also confirmed that the console will launch on November 10th at $299. Interestingly, it's highly likely that the Xbox Series X will launch on that day too, making Windows Central's report about it costing $499 a bit more believable. The Xbox Series S, apart from having lower resolution capabilities and a smaller SSD, will still have most of the bells and whistles of next-gen, which is quite impressive for its affordable price point. Now it's just a matter of waiting for Microsoft to also confirm the Xbox Series X pricing and release date too, which isn't much of a secret anymore.



With Xbox Series S now revealed with a price and release date, and Xbox Series X possibly receiving an announcement soon too, the ball is now in Sony's court for the same information on the PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like they intend to announce anything PS5-related soon as they recently put out a blog post stating that PS VR will be given the spotlight this week instead. With the November release window fast approaching, and pre-orders beginning to slowly open up as retailers worldwide gear up for their big marketing pushes, time is quickly running out for Sony to make an official announcement. Let's hope both companies start building that crucial momentum for next-gen.
