Silent Hill is considered - or should I say was considered - one of Konami's prized franchises. In the 90s and early 2000s, the series saw a surge in critical and commercial success, widely regarded as one of the greatest horror gaming franchises of all time. Since then, however, after a string of uninspired sequels and one notoriously cancelled but promising entry, Konami is finally putting all their chips in on Silent Hill as a new report discovers that the company has put the series' website domain on sale.

Reported by We Got This Covered, when you visit the Silent Hill website now, it simply brings up a "for sale" page. Apparently, the website is being sold for $9,835. This is especially strange since Konami renewed the trademark to Silent Hill back in August, but this was probably done to keep the licensing to their gambling machines only. It seems like Konami is done for good with the series.



Not all is doom and gloom, though, as a recent rumour suggests that Hideo Kojima was in talks with Konami to acquire the Silent Hill IP so that it belongs to Kojima Productions. Of course, this comes from Reddit poster Sarkzt0001, though no moderators were able to completely verify these claims. We also aren't entirely convinced that this meeting did occur, as the bad blood between Kojima and Konami, even at this current stage, makes it hard to believe that the company would just hand Kojima their IP. Unless a deal was struck, this would also mean that Konami's precious gambling machines would also have an uncertain future, so we think that it's a bit of a false rumour. Nonetheless, in the off-chance that it is true, could we see Kojima Productions bring Silent Hills back from the grave? Seems like Kojima is also keen on developing a new horror game too.

So far, it looks like Konami is pretty hellbent on keeping the Silent Hill franchise in a shallow grave.
