Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon and Primal to Get 60FPS Updates This Week
Ubisoft is rolling out new updates this week for three classic Far Cry games, adding 60FPS to each title. These include Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and Far Cry Primal, which will receive the performance boost updates on current-gen consoles tomorrow, 21 January.
The official Far Cry account on X (via VGC) recently posted a cryptic tweet regarding certain Far Cry titles. Through responses in the comments, it was confirmed that Far Cry 3, its spin-off Blood Dragon and Far Cry Primal will all be getting 60FPS updates for current-gen consoles. Far Cry 4 already received a 60FPS update in April last year, allowing it to run at the higher framerate on PS5. A 60FPS option was already available on Xbox Series X thanks to Microsoft’s FPS boost feature.
The new update arriving tomorrow for both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will enable Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon and Far Cry Primal to hit 60FPS (previously, it was locked to 30FPS, even when playing on current-gen consoles). The update will be available for players who already own any of these games physically or digitally.
In related news, a Far Cry TV series is currently in the works at FX and Hulu from Noah Hawley, the creator of Fargo and Alien: Earth. The series will feature an anthology format similar to Fargo, covering one standalone story per season. It’s unclear if the anthology format will work to adapt each game in the Far Cry franchise per season, or if it will feature brand-new stories set within the universe.
As for the future of the franchise, Ubisoft is reportedly working on Far Cry 7 as the next chapter in the series. Early reports claim it will feature a family of antagonists in a power struggle similar to the TV show Succession. A standalone multiplayer game is also apparently being developed, though it might’ve been rebooted early last year.
