Gran Turismo 8 Heats Up Following New Polyphony Job Listings

It’s almost inevitable to expect a new Gran Turismo game every PlayStation generation and right on schedule, it seems like developer Polyphony Digital is already hard at work on Gran Turismo 8. This is according to new job listings at the company seeking various roles and positions for a “new Gran Turismo project.”



First spotted by Insider Gaming, several job listings suddenly appeared on Polyphony Digital’s website seeking the following roles:

Build Engineer
Online Engineer
Front-End Engineer
Racing Game Programmer
Application Programmer
Pipeline Tool Programmer
Graphics Programmer
Sound Programmer
Game AI Programmer
Vehicle Simulation Programmer
Game Engine Programmer
UI Designer
GT Explore Studio
CG Artist
Technical Artist

Interestingly, the job description of the Vehicle Simulation Programmer states: “The Vehicle Simulation Programmer will work to improve the vehicle simulation engine of the Gran Turismo series, and recreate mechanisms unique to individual cars.” This suggests the next game will have a stronger focus on realism and highly accurate vehicle handling.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard about a new Gran Turismo project being in the works. Earlier this year, Polyphony Digital posted the first batch of job listings seeking devs to work on a new Gran Turismo, though now we have further confirmation that something is in the pipeline.

Polyphony Digital is winding down work on Gran Turismo 7 with the upcoming Spec IV update to be one of its last major additions. Development will then shift to the next Gran Turismo (if it hasn’t already), which will presumably launch on PS6.

Gran Turismo 7 launched in March 2022 and apparently accumulated between 14 and 15 million sales, making it one of the most successful first-party games from PlayStation this generation. With that momentum, it’s no wonder that Polyphony Digital – which has specialised in Gran Turismo’s development since its humble beginnings on the PS1 – will continue that streak, especially with the new technology that will be afforded by the more powerful PS6 console.
