Capcom currently has their hands full with a list of new projects including the likes of Resident Evil Village and the leaked sequel to Dragon's Dogma. However, it was also previously leaked that they were planning a remake of Resident Evil 4 next, with the studio behind the Resident Evil 3 remake, M-Two, handling duties. It looks like plans may have significantly changed at Capcom as a new report states that some creative differences internally led to M-Two getting their role in development reduced while Capcom' Division 1 swooped in to take over.

As reported by Video Games Chronicle, Capcom has overhauled their plans for the Resident Evil 4 remake. Developer M-Two's role has been reduced, as Capcom's Division 1 - who are the leading team responsible for the Resident Evil and Devil May Cry series - have taken over. According to VGC, M-Two's backlash surrounding Resident Evil 3 remake's missing content and unwillingness to stick faithfully to the original blueprint of Resident Evil 4 has now brought Division 1 into the fold. Division 1 aims to be directly inspired by the original albeit with their own unique takes on features and elements, much like the liberties taken with Mr. X in the Resident Evil 2 remake. If this means that the big cheese will be pursuing Leon around the island, so be it.

With the project being rebooted internally, it will seemingly miss its originally planned 2022 release, from our understanding, and will now target a release in 2023 instead. Capcom refused to comment on the article when asked about its truths, perhaps to retain the secrecy of the remake.
Resident Evil 4 launched in 2005, being widely regarded as the best in the series, and one of the best horror video games of all time. It's change from fixed camera angles to an over-the-shoulder viewpoint carried on throughout the series until even the remakes today, while influencing numerous titles like Dead Space. Capcom's recent remakes include Resident Evil 2 and 3, though we expect them to eventually stop with Resident Evil 4.
Resident Evil Village launches on May 7th, 2021 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
