Disney and Marvel Studios have been facing an uphill battle with releasing Black Widow. The next chapter in the MCU was originally planned to release last year, but the global COVID-19 pandemic forced them to reconsider options and delay releases indefinitely. Black Widow was previously slated to release this May, but has now been delayed by two months to July. In addition to the new release date, Disney will now release the film in both theatres and on the Disney+ streaming service, but at a cost to subscribers.

Black Widow will release on July 9th, 2021 in theatres and Disney+. Originally, Disney and Marvel Studios planned to just release the film in theatres in May, but due to the global pandemic unlikely to slow down anytime soon, they seemingly reconsidered releasing it on streaming services too. Much like Mulan last year, though, Disney+ subscribers will need to pay a fee to watch the film at home. Disney stated that this move for a simultaneous release reflects "the evolving preferences of audiences" in a market "that is beginning to recover from the global pandemic", as reported by Eyewitness News.
