The order is absurdly Beautiful! There are times where you entirely forget that you are playing a game and rather instead, feel like you are immersed in a high end CG film. Often, after an incredible real-time cut scene, you realise your character is just standing there, waiting for you continue with the gameplay and your brain just hasn't caught up yet.
The game play is a mix of solid 3rd person shooter and QTE story driven cinematic events hindered only by the fact that you just want to spend more time exploring the levels with little reward for doing so other than being visually astounded by the game's sheer polish.
I wanted to post some screenshots today but I forgot to bring them along (will do so tomorrow), but even as I was going through the mounds screen captures I took (just couldn't stop as each area was as jaw dropping as the previous), I realised that just you have to see this game in motion to understand to get the full impact of the visual effects and appreciate the amount of detail Ready at Dawn have lovingly placed in their cinematic world - all created on a gaming engine they built from the ground up I might add, separating it's visuals from games we tend to see nowadays that share their engines.
With The Order: 1886 being a game at the end of the day, this does position it in a awkward position for reviewers, (which is most noticeable in it's polar reviews the game is receiving, 4's to 9's out of 10).
So with that said, I say is this; there genuinely is no other game on the market that looks as amazing as The Order 1886 does and perhaps it's primary issue might be that it suffers from your standard third person action game play affair, in fact much like uncharted's gunplay and enemy encounters with a silky smooth frame rate, incorporating minor QTE's in the cinematic portions (making sure you are paying attention). However, this IS a gaming experience and one that might be more suited to the gamer not looking for the annual run and gunner but rather an intriguing plot, stoic characters and highly detailed world that embrace you, making the experience unlike most games, leaving you with the feeling that you are part of an epic tale, one, that if sequels are made will only improve in its gameplay offering.
I am counting the minutes till I can go home and continue my Lycan hunt and reveal the betrayal that is taking place in the ranks of The Order.
So far a solid 8/10 from me, with the a fair warning that you may wear out your ps4's share button.
