No one is stopping you from enjoying the FFVII Reamke games. But my point still stands, it's poorly written fanfiction. First time I played Final Fantasy VII was in 1999. Final Fantasy VII and Resident Evil 1(I still have both), were my first 2 PlayStation 1 games. So I've played Final Fantasy VII numerous times over the years. What what the Remake games are, are nothing more than imitators.

It's mass market slop at it's finest. Does it make it terrible games? Not at all, Remake Part 1 was fairly decent. But let's not pretend that any of the remake games are as good as the original. I hope Square Enix doesn't touch Final Fantasy VIII. Because they'll ruin that as well.

@phreak - Dont't get me wrong, many fans have valid criticism's with the game and I respect that. And It sucks when a game you're excited for doesn't hit the way you'd hope. I mean as fans we want to enjoy all entries in our favourite franchises.

I feel that as I'm getting older I rather just enjoy games for what they are.

One thing that I am not happy with is that FFVII Revelation will not be fully on disc, even though physical discs are included.

I'm a pretty hardcore FF fan but if you love the Remake series, as I do, you also kind of have to understand that a lot of contentious decisions were made in the story and it's just not gonna land with some people. I totally get why some folks don't like it or agree with the changes.

I do hope however that the announcement of FFXVII is close, feels like the FF fandom needs a new mainline title to reset after the Remake series lol

@phreak - that I understand. Rabid defenders are rarely better than those that hate on a game. If you like a game or series, it makes sense you want to discuss what it could have done better or where it might go in the future.

Think people have become to comfortable with giving simplistic aggressive responses, attaching a strong emotion to it as justification, then calling it a day.

I will never deny that the FF7 remake games have good graphics, runs well and a great combat system.
Those parts are really well done. It's other things I don't like

Won't deny you that ever. Hope you love it.
I'm just tired of being insulted for not liking changes I feel are disrespectful to the original. Changes I won't talk about here due to spoilers.

@phreak @IcariX - Everyone is entitled to their opinions but personally I am excited for Revelations. I never played the OG FFVII until 2006ish.

Loved it, but the remakes are even better. The combat, graphics and party interactions are great.

Played Remake and while it does have its slow parts i.e walking simulator. It's still a great game. Played Rebirth last month only and it was even better, much more exploration, and yes while there is a ton of side content - most of it is optional.

It was a joy to see Zack again and play as him. and I think in the remakes Aerith's characterisation is miles better than Tifa.

I am hyped for Revelations and cant wait for more.

I am not a purist so do not care much with the story changes, by the end of the trilogy I doubt there will be any crazy differences to the actual ending of FFVII.

Resonance will be my GOTY though, I can see it already.

Elitism is fine except when people lose sense of the context in which games (or any other media) are made.

We're shifting into a bipolar market - maybe exacerbated by social media - where things are near perfect and therefore worth money/time, or people fixate on flaws without considering things like the developers cultural setting, size, budget, development time, and publisher influence.

Increasingly problematic when a few flaws lead to small teams (and sometimes bigger ones) collectively trashed for one or two elements with no regard given for everything else the games/series/movie does well.

Does not bode well as that ultimately means more safe bets and more homogenisation (especially in the console market where creative indie titles don't sell nearly as many copies as on PC).

I can't wait for Resonance. But the more I hear Square Enix talk about Revelations, the less I'm interested in playing it.

I've been called an elitist as well. But the whole Remake trilogy so far feels like poorly written fanfiction. I hope Square Enix stays far far far away from Final Fantasy VIII

Our recommendations

Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition

I’m sure there are die-hard fans of the AoE I and AoE II Definitive Editions – both on Xbox Game Pass and also excellent choices – who despise the streamlined resource, upgrade, and gameplay mechanics in AoE III DE. However, it’s got the most memorable, generation-spanning campaign that feels more developed than the scenarios presented in the prior games (which were basically skirmish maps with pre-built bases and tech limitations) and two equally well-developed expansions. For MP fans, matches tend to play out quicker (even against defensive players), as late-stage resource-producing structures avoid the inevitable clash of basic units once the map has been stripped of all wood, stone, and gold. It also helps that it runs well on older hardware, despite the visual overhaul that makes the 2005 original look better than ever.

The Classic LucasArts Remasters

While I’m not a huge fan of Day of the Tentacle and the need to juggle items, across three time zones, using a convoluted control scheme, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango are more streamlined games, with epic stories, Tim Schafer’s distinctive humour, less obtuse puzzling, the ability to highlight interactive objects, and plenty of stylish set-pieces (even if they don’t play all that intuitively these days). It also helps no end that the updated artwork, enhanced audio, and remastered soundtracks retain the look and feel of the original, while making them look great on modern HD displays.

You can currently start a fresh Xbox Game Pass subscription on PC and console for R15.90, before it goes up to R99/month. If you’re on console, you can subscribe to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate bundle, which includes both a Gold subscription for online multiplayer (and Game Pass for PC access) for a total of R149/month.

@Blaze - the nostalgia is strong with AoE 1 and AoE 2 DE but I find myself playing 1-2 missions at the start of each campaign before quickly moving on. I'm sure there are MP players who know the perfect resourcing and upgrades paths to build an army quickly, but I fin every mission ultimately drags on too long.
