Silent Hill Movie Franchise is Apparently Getting a ‘Fresh Start’

@phreak - that I understand. Rabid defenders are rarely better than those that hate on a game. If you like a game or series, it makes sense you want to discuss what it could have done better or where it might go in the future.

Think people have become to comfortable with giving simplistic aggressive responses, attaching a strong emotion to it as justification, then calling it a day.

I will never deny that the FF7 remake games have good graphics, runs well and a great combat system.
Those parts are really well done. It's other things I don't like

I'm just tired of being insulted for not liking changes I feel are disrespectful to the original. Changes I won't talk about here due to spoilers.

@phreak @IcariX - Everyone is entitled to their opinions but personally I am excited for Revelations. I never played the OG FFVII until 2006ish.

Loved it, but the remakes are even better. The combat, graphics and party interactions are great.

Played Remake and while it does have its slow parts i.e walking simulator. It's still a great game. Played Rebirth last month only and it was even better, much more exploration, and yes while there is a ton of side content - most of it is optional.

It was a joy to see Zack again and play as him. and I think in the remakes Aerith's characterisation is miles better than Tifa.

I am hyped for Revelations and cant wait for more.

I am not a purist so do not care much with the story changes, by the end of the trilogy I doubt there will be any crazy differences to the actual ending of FFVII.

Resonance will be my GOTY though, I can see it already.

Elitism is fine except when people lose sense of the context in which games (or any other media) are made.

We're shifting into a bipolar market - maybe exacerbated by social media - where things are near perfect and therefore worth money/time, or people fixate on flaws without considering things like the developers cultural setting, size, budget, development time, and publisher influence.

Increasingly problematic when a few flaws lead to small teams (and sometimes bigger ones) collectively trashed for one or two elements with no regard given for everything else the games/series/movie does well.

Does not bode well as that ultimately means more safe bets and more homogenisation (especially in the console market where creative indie titles don't sell nearly as many copies as on PC).

I can't wait for Resonance. But the more I hear Square Enix talk about Revelations, the less I'm interested in playing it.

I've been called an elitist as well. But the whole Remake trilogy so far feels like poorly written fanfiction. I hope Square Enix stays far far far away from Final Fantasy VIII

Being called an "elitist" because I don't like the changes from the original isn't fair. I LOVE FF, it's my fav game series, but am I not allowed to voice my displeasure things in about it I don't like?

It seems the success of Zach Cregger’s recently released Resident Evil movie might’ve inspired Konami to give the Silent Hill movie franchise a “fresh start.” The latest Silent Hill movie, Return to Silent Hill, released earlier this year to a negative reception from fans and critics despite bringing back Christophe Gans, the director of the first (and better-received) Silent Hill movie adaptation.

According to Dread Central, the Silent Hill movie franchise is heading for a ‘fresh start’ as a ‘bold new take’ on the video game series is reportedly underway. Silent Hill doesn’t have the most consistent track record when it comes to its film adaptations. The first movie released in 2006 is still widely applauded as one of the better video game movie adaptations out there, though other film adaptations to follow failed to capture the same magic.

The timing of Konami’s plan to reboot the Silent Hill movies couldn’t have come at a more obvious time as Cregger’s Resident Evil movie is still blazing a trail at the box office while receiving the strongest reviews for any video game adaptation to date. Perhaps Konami got inspired to do the same for its own horror film franchise, though we’ll have to wait and see if it’s as successful.

In related news, the first reviews for the new entry in the Silent Hill franchise, Silent Hill: Townfall, arrived this week and they’re mostly positive. Many critics called it a fresh mix of both old and new as the series shifts to a first-person perspective. Others were more vocal about some of its shortcomings, stating that the story and writing didn’t hold up as strongly as past entries.

Konami remains firm on its plans to release at least one new Silent Hill project every year. Next year could see the release of Bloober Team’s anticipated remake of Silent Hill 1.
