Sony is reportedly working on a new pro controller for the PlayStation 5. This so-called “PS5 DualSense Pro Controller” will act as a premium offering to PS5 owners with a sleight of features and hardware improvements. According to the report, the PS5 DualSense Pro Controller, codenamed “Hunt” will come with all the great features that make the DualSense so unique already. This includes haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support. However, the pro features will come from the controller’s additional hardware tweaks.
The report details the controller to feature buttons under the analogue sticks where users can completely remove the analogue mechanism and replace it with another one. Sony refers to these as “removable stick units” and has been implemented into the controller as a deterrent to stick drift. Instead of replacing the entire controller should your analogue stick act up and develop drift over time, users can simply replace the mechanism with a simple press of a button.

The replaceable mechanism also means that users can purchase other analogue components. Possibly in different colours, materials and various heights to fit certain playstyles.
Other pro features on this controller include trigger stops and rear-back paddles that will allow users to map buttons to these paddles for faster interactions. It is unclear how many paddles the controller will include but if Sony follows the previous optional paddle attachment the company released for the PS4, expect two paddles.
The report also details customizable grips on the PS5 DualSense Pro Controller. These grips will also be removable and swappable with other textured versions that specific users might prefer. The controller will also be fully programmable and come with software updates that unlock new features and refinements over its lifetime.
Sony is reportedly gearing up to showcase this new PS5 DualSense Pro Controller by the end of June. The report claims that the company has a handful of hardware announcements to make and the controller is one of them. Don’t expect a PS5 console though. Perhaps Sony is ready to announce its premium headset similar to the Platinum version that was released alongside the PS4. Either that or we might actually get some new PS VR2 updates.
