Recently, an announcement came that Metro Exodus, the ending to the Metro trilogy, will be an Epic Store exclusive title. Despite promising those who had pre-ordered the title on Steam between the reveal and now, players are not happy with the move to a different platform.
Even with a $10 discount through the Epic Store, players are negatively review-bombing Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux on Steam, in protest of the move (since they can’t post on the Metro Exodus Steam page).
Each title is now showing “Mostly Negative” reviews on their page, despite having high review scores still. Interestingly, players are not claiming that Metro 2033 and Last Light are bad games, simply that they are unhappy with the move over to Epic Store. Also, the numbers are not exactly small or non-impactful; in the past four years, Metro 2033 Redux has received 3391 total negative reviews, which includes the 891 negative reviews over the past three days. Metro Last Light Redux has received 2457 negative reviews, including the 863 received in the last three days.
The Epic Store has received a fair point of criticism, in that it doesn’t allow User Reviews to be posted. While it is important to take those with a pinch of salt, it is still important to give the players a platform to be heard, good or not. Tim Sweeney has stated that this will be implemented soon but that it will be “opt-in by developers”.
We’re working on a review system for the Epic Games store based on the existing one in the Unreal Engine marketplace. It will be opt-in by developers. We think this is best because review bombing and other gaming-the-system is a real problem.
