Nintendo Switch Sales Pass 50 Million Units, New Animal Crossing-Themed Switch Revealed
The Nintendo Switch has sold more than 50 million units in the three years since its release, selling faster than the PlayStation 4 did in the same time frame.

The success of the Nintendo Switch can be attributed to a number of factors, including the portability of the system as well as the support from major developers to bring a number of high-profile AAA titles to the handheld console. Despite some issues such as JoyCon drift, the Nintendo Switch has been a phenomenally successful platform for Nintendo.
Also worth pointing out that according to our estimates the Nintendo Switch passed the Xbox One in hardware shipments during the holiday quarter last year.

The Xbox One is not too far behind, but it has only taken Switch 34 months to achieve what the Xbox One did in 74 months.
PlayStation consoles have set the record for collective units sold - currently at 106 million units - but the Nintendo Switch has been a true competitor to the home console, which is a feat in amongst itself. The Nintendo Switch has also rapidly outpaced its predecessor, the Nintendo DS, which sold a little over 150 million units during its lifetime, which the current-gen system has already reached a third of.
Furthermore, the Nintendo Switch has stolen the title of the fastest-selling console of all time, especially when compared to the PS4 (106 million in six years), and the Xbox One (estimated 50 million units in six years). As stipulated by GameRant, the sales numbers above are a rough indication of total sales figures for the top-selling consoles.

The success of the console can also be attributed to the themed consoles that Nintendo has released over the last three years, including the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate console, the Pokemon Let’s Go-themed consoles, as well as the upcoming Animal Crossing-themed platform releasing in March this year.
