Horizon Forbidden West developer, Guerilla Games, has detailed the accessibility features that will be implemented in the upcoming title, along with their new custom difficulty setting, and co-pilot system as well.

Fans of Horizon Zero Dawn will already be accustomed to the accessibility features as they make a return in Forbidden West, although Guerilla has also stated that there are new features that have been specifically created for Aloy’s latest adventure. These features have been implemented as Guerilla “continues to learn and understand more about the needs of its players”, according to the studio.
Horizon Forbidden West’s custom difficulty will allow players to individually-tweak certain settings to create the optimal playing space for each person (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a recent example of this). In this setting, players can set how much damage Aloy takes and deals out, individually of each other, rather than with traditional difficulty settings which would increase/decrease these values based on Easy, Medium, or Hard.
Guerilla has also eased the burden of detaching individual components from machines in order to acquire certain loot, with their new “easy loot system”. On the “Story” and “Easy” difficulty options, this will be the default, and will add the components to the machine's inventory upon death, regardless of whether the part was detached or not. In the custom difficulty settings, this can be toggled, and any difficulty above “Easy” will still default to Zero Dawn’s mechanic. This is great for players who enjoy the challenge of taking down machines without having to worry about targeting individual pieces for certain loot.
The most interesting feature to be introduced is the co-pilot system, whereby another player can access the game with a second PlayStation controller, which has been “implemented thanks to incredible feedback and support from Guerilla’s sightless accessibility consultant”. What this means in terms of actual gameplay, and the benefits, we would have to wait and see - thankfully, not for too long.
Horizon Forbidden West releases on the 18th of February on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
