Ghost of Tsushima: Watch the First 25 Minutes in Kurosawa Mode with Japanese Audio
Ghost of Tsushima is on the verge of its big release tomorrow, and fans are gearing up to take on the role of either an honourable samurai, or the dishonourable Ghost. The first 25 minutes of the game sets up our central conflict between the samurai forces of Tsushima and the invading Mongols, who appear from the sea on warships. It's here we're also introduced to our central villain, the incredible Khotun Khan, and from there events take quite a spiral downwards for the Japanese forces.

With Jin separated from his uncle, Lord Shimura, he meets the mysterious Yuna who rescues him and guides him out of a heavily fortified Mongol-ceased encampment. We're introduced to some of our first direct combat on the beaches, before being thrown into a lengthy stealth section that familiarizes players with various stealth options and abilities. All of the footage below was captured on a PS4 Pro, and played in Kurosawa Mode, the game's black and white, grainy filter to give the game the illusion of appearing as an old-school samurai film. The opening section does not include any heavy spoilers, but tread lightly if you wish to experience everything for the first time.
To top off the old-school cinema experience in Kurosawa Mode, we've also included the Japanese audio track with subtitles for quite an authentic experience. While the lip syncing is mainly tied to the English dub, there's still a great classic aesthetic about the Japanese audio that gives it character. However, we're also hoping that Sucker Punch will update the game so that lip syncing is matched in Japanese as well, since this might be the way many gamers will opt to experience Ghost of Tsushima for authenticity. If you'd like our extensive thoughts on the game, read our review to find out why it's one of the best PS4 exclusives we've ever played, and a fitting swan song for the PS4 generation.
Ghost of Tsushima releases on July 17th, 2020 exclusively for PS4.
