Rockstar Games is still trickling interesting new details about its upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI and this time, the studio’s confirmed that the game will feature over 170 species of animals – some of them prime for a hunt like in Red Dead Redemption 2. Additionally, Rockstar explained how its weather system will work. Not just happy with the sunny shores of the Florida-inspired Leonida, the company is also adding hurricanes and tropical storms to the game.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, Rockstar Games revealed a bit of new information about GTA VI, explaining that it will feature over 170 species of animals spread across Leonida and players will be able to track down and confront legendary animals. Rockstar stopped short of mentioning what they’ll be, though we can probably take a guess and assume we might face some monstrous alligators in the swamps.
In total, there will be over 30 land mammals, 60 types of birds, and various kinds of sharks, fish, reptiles and more. Invasive animals such as monkeys and armadillos can also be found in the game.
Owen Shepard, vice president of art for lighting and rendering at Rockstar Games, later spoke about the game’s dynamic weather and how hurricanes may appear:
“Heavy clouds, strong winds, dense atmospherics, and a lot of rain combine so that everything is dripping wet, water is gushing off roof edges and lampposts, thunder rumbles, and flashes of lightning light up the clouds dramatically. [Expect] offshore breezes after sunset, convectional updrafts, and occlusion from buildings. Hair and debris will swirl around on rooftops; gusts of wind will blow ripples over the water surface and bend the grass in swamps.”
