Divinity Officially Announced by Larian Studios – Bigger Than Baldur’s Gate 3
After a couple of weeks of very clever marketing regarding a mysterious sinister statue (and a leak that pointed in the right direction), Game of the Year winner and developer Larian Studios officially pulled the curtain back on its next big project, Divinity, at The Game Awards. The studio described it as “their biggest game ever, even larger than Baldur’s Gate 3.”
The reveal trailer for Divinity caught the attention of a lot of viewers due to its horrifying body horror as a man is sacrificed and burned alive in a strange occultic alter while gleefully disturbed villagers danced, cheered and, well, fornicated on the ground. That aside, it’s an extremely well-produced cinematic announcement that made viewers squirm and keep their attention locked on Larian’s next title.
Fans already familiar with the IP know that Divinity is an established, beloved RPG series from Larian Studios, with the most well-known games being Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel. A press release for Divinity states:
“Divinity is a brand new game that doesn’t require experience with previous Larian titles, those who’ve played Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 will be able to enjoy greater understanding and continuity.”
It seems like Larian Studios will pull another Baldur’s Gate 3 situation where newcomers don’t need to necessarily be well-versed in the past games or its deep lore, but those who’ve already played the Original Sin games will gain a greater appreciation for it (like Baldur’s Gate and D&D fans for Baldur’s Gate 3).
Beyond the exciting announcement trailer, Larian Studios hasn’t revealed when we can expect to play the new dark RPG. Fans anticipate it could release in 2027, though we’ll have to keep an eye out for more information.
