Borderlands 3 Release Possibly Pushed to 2020
After recent developments that Borderlands 3 will not be appearing at E3 2018, which has now been confirmed by several sources, a financial update yesterday from publisher Take-Two Interactive alluded to the game only releasing sometime between April 2019 and March 2020, though the game still needs “additional development time.”
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick does not specifically mention the title by name, but calls it a “highly anticipated” game, which can only point to Borderlands 3 as it is possibly the only major game currently in development at Gearbox that we are aware of. On the flip side, this could point to the rumoured new BioShock in development, but it's more likely to be the first.
While a massive delay of Borderlands 3 might be upsetting to many fans, the scale of the project could be pretty daunting, especially given that it is now being built and developed entirely on the Unreal Engine 4. The Borderlands series also focuses on a huge open world, colourful characters, and an art style that’s entirely unique to the games. The undertaking that Gearbox faces right now might be in need of a delay in order to get the game right, before unveiling it officially to the masses on a stage like E3. On that note, if the game does not launch shortly after April 2019, then we can probably expect to see it at E3 2019.
