Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Goes Rogue-lite

Ubisoft announced a whole new year of content headed to Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. The campaign is called “Year Two” and will include returning festivals, Mastery Challenge Pack 2, an armoury update and new free tombs to explore. However, the biggest news is the addition of a new game mode in Valhalla called The Forgotten Saga. This is a new rogue-lite-inspired game mode that takes place in Niflheim.

In The Forgotten Saga, Loki’s daughter, Hel challenges Odin to an endless series of scenarios. Odin needs to fight his way through these challenges by killing enemies and completing death-defying dungeons. As Odin progresses, Odin unlocks new weapons and skills to take with him to the next challenge.

The idea here is to try and get as far as possible without dying but if you do, you take some of the loot and skills you learn back with you and have to restart the challenge again. The trailer reveals that The Forgotten Saga is going to offer a fantasy approach with dragons and other monstrous enemies to fight. The Forgotten Saga will launch in the next few weeks and be free for all Valhalla owners.

This non-combat game will let players explore the regions in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla while going on an educational tour about the history surrounding the Vikings. The game is now available on PlayStation, Xbox, Stadia, Luna and PC.

New Assassin’s Creed Announcement

Lastly, Ubisoft announced that the studio will unveil the future of Assassin’s Creed in September during a very special event. However, we don’t know if this is the heavily-rumoured Assassin’s Creed Rift game which is reportedly a small-scale story title focused on Basim. This could also be the Assassin’s Creed: Infinity announcement which is reportedly the live-service game. Perhaps Ubisoft will announce both?
