It seems like E3 season is kicking off a lot sooner than most of us expected. Yesterday, the gaming industry dropped a few announcements of gaming showcases taking place on May 27th, ahead of both Summer Game Fest and E3 2021. The events will be dedicated to specific games, namely Sonic, Forza, Dying Light 2, and Horizon Forbidden West. Here's all of the events taking place and when you can watch them.

Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary

Square Enix is set to have a Dragon Quest showcase on May 26th/27th as part of the series' 35th anniversary. The official website is promising "the latest information about what’s going on — and what’s yet to come — in the world of Dragon Quest." Fans are taking this as a sign that we'll likely see a new entry in the Dragon Quest series be announced, but time will tell. While it will air on May 26th at night for America, South Africans can expect it to drop nice and early on May 27th.

Sonic 30th Anniversary

First up is the Sonic 30th Anniversary hosted by Sega. There's little information about this event other than to expect some "upcoming projects", but if recent leaks are true, then we can expect the Sonic Collection to be revealed, which bundles remakes of both the original Sonic 1 & 2. There's likely to be more surprises in store for Sonic fans, so don't miss this one out.

Forza Monthly Showcase

The Forza Monthly showcase will return this month, a show usually dedicated to updates on the latest video games in the Forza Horizon series. Typically, we can expect the announcement of new cars and event updates arriving in Forza Horizon 4, but with that game's lifespan coming to a close, people are curious to see what's next. Unfortunately, we recommend not investing too much in this showcase if you're expecting them to announce Forza Horizon 5. However, both Turn 10 and Playground Games will surely have something good to show off, whether it's for Forza Horizon 4 or otherwise.

Dying Light 2 Showcase

Developer Techland is finally going to break the silence on Dying Light 2, the upcoming open world zombie action title and sequel to Dying Light. The game has gone through some development troubles with notable project leads leaving the company in the past months, but we're still keen to see how the project has come together so far. We won't expect a release date, but updated gameplay is surely welcomed at this event.

Horizon Forbidden West State of Play

Finally, Sony is set to host another PlayStation State of Play, this time dedicated to Guerrilla Games' Horizon Forbidden West, the long-awaited sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. The game was first unveiled at PlayStation's Future of Gaming event in 2020 with a pretty spectacular trailer, but now it's time to finally see how the gameplay looks. Horizon fans, don't miss out what is sure to be one of Sony's biggest dedicated events of the year.
