Preacher vol 4

This volume is comprised of 3 standalone stories that deal with 3 specific characters we've met so far, and how their lives were before they met up with the main character Jesse Custer.
What can I say? It's pretty great. The Saint of Killers story is downright epic. The author describes in his foreword how he's a big fan of westerns and how he had a blast writing a gritty, revenge tale based in the old west, and it shows. Definitely the best of the bunch.
The 2nd story dealing with *ahem* Arseface and his upbringing, takes a more serious tone as it deals with domestic abuse and teen depression, with a twisted view that only Ennis can sell.
Final tale is pretty crazy, showing us a day in the life of Jesse's 2 redneck acquaintances from his youth.

Fables started back at issue 1 since I read these so long ago. Snow White cussing is hilarious

Various Star Wars comics. Just finished the General Grievous mini. Yep really don't like the prequels and Clone Wars stuff. Reread KoTOR and those were damn good.

Conan the Cimmerian - more hack and slash goodness

Predator Omnibus 1 - 4 - I had read most of the series over the years and they really can be hit and miss. Some are excellent and some just meh.

I managed to find the first 5 issues of Haunt. Not bad!!!

Preacher volumes 5 and 6.
Shizz went down, volume 5 was a riot, and volume 6 brought the conflict between Jesse and the Grail to a head.
Seriously great stuff.

Damian Son of Batman 4 issue series! Very good so far, its kind of a what if story.

Katana 1-5 - Terrible. Avoid.

Justice League of America: Vibe 1-3 - Nothing spectacular. Only reading for one plotline, to see how it's handled. Beyond that, pretty throwaway.

Neglected this thread a bit. Finished Preacher a while back. Absolutely incredible series. The final book was absolutely perfect, conclusive, well written ending, and I just love every single character to bits.
If you've never read it, you're seriously missing out.

Started the first chunk of Batman: Black Glove which introduces Damian. What a prat. It feels a little rushed, as if Morrison wants to get to a certain point quickly so he disperses with anything deemed a waste of time and goes straight into the meat of the story. Suppose it can either bug you or make you happy, I for one have really been loving Peter Tomasi's Batman & Robin run, and he kills it with long, dialog light panels.

Swamp Thing vol 1 New 52. Not bad at all, just didn't buy some aspects of it. Great art, and a captivating story. Reading it alongside Lemire's Animal Man.

I Kill Giants. A one shot story, and an incredible read. The art is spectacular, not as detailed as a lot of books out there, but as vibrant and striking as b&w art can be. More often than not simplicity can really help translate what the author is trying to say. And a pretty touching, poignant story. Really enjoyed it.

Superman Red Son: it was ok and the ending was very "planet of the apes"
This book sums up why Superman is just a bad "superhero" character, especial with what the "note" says.

@BatPool: Yup, heard about it as well. I think it'll be some time before we see it though, Preacher is not the easiest to translate to TV. The most mature themed show out right now doesn't even come close to how crazy Preacher gets.
Interesting that you didn't enjoy Red Son, considered to be one of the best Superman original stories. I'm not a huge Superman fan and really enjoyed it, nice spin on the usual mythos.

Pretty cool story and idea, but just too rushed to fit into 3 issues.

Read DrumHellar #1 yesterday. Quite a strange story. Seems like its possibly going to grow as the series continues.

I don't really keep track of what's new at any one point since I look out for collected releases. But generally I'd say anything by Image is worth looking into.

Thanos Rising
Enjoyed it. Makes his origin story come across as a tragic tale. He's pretty crazy but they make a pretty convincing argument that given the circumstances it could happen to anyone (despite his being a pretty unique situation).

Animal Man vol 2 (N52)
Also enjoyed it. As a sort of prelude to Rotworld they set the stage nicely for what I suspect is the big battle in Vol. 3. Foreman's art remains jarring and grotesque, a perfect complement to Lemire's storytelling.
I'm not a huge fan of his family, they feel like less of a family and more of a hindrance put there purely to give Buddy a reason to fight for. But seeing as how the mythos of the Red, Green and Rot is so compelling, it's a forgivable shortcoming.

Just finished Vol 1 of Peert Panzerfaust and it is amazing. A wonderful WW II book in the mould of the old boys own adventure books using the Peter Pan tale as a base. Definitely a must read for anyone

Dark Tower vol 1
Not half bad. If you've read the books, the comic series is set as a prequel, but essentially follows the plot as described in Roland's flashbacks during the 4th book, Wizard and Glass.
I'm a huge fan of the Dark Tower so I really enjoyed it, Jae Lee's art seems to fit the world perfectly, and the dialog is done very well to make it conform to the books. If anything it just feels a little rushed, but that's only because it's an adaptation of a Stephen King story, an author known for extremely dense writing. Feels odd for something to get to the point so quickly
Also feels like if you haven't read the books, you may be lost a bit at first, and the scope and weight of each character and their decisions may go over your head a bit.
It's a great story, but I think this particular adaptation was made for existing fans, so it's hard to recommend to any random passerby.

Batman: Black Glove
Finished the whole thing finally. Boy, Morrison is a hard writer to follow sometimes, but you can get the sense that he's constantly building towards something, and it's interesting to see Batman get a little more deconstructed and put into situations he's not quite capable of dealing with as effectively.
I'm sure I'll have to re-read this and then some once I've finished Morrison's entire Batman run, but it's definitely worth while reading, just not for everyone.

Fables, first half of book 1, so Legends in Exile essentially.
I can see myself getting into it. Primarily an introductory arc, but every character is unique and interesting enough in their own right, especially seeing how it's characters we all technically already know, only now we're seeing them as transparent and real, living things.
Definitely looking forward to digging further into this world.
