Moana - Another good Disney animated movie. Buying Pixar has been a boon for them. Very beautiful, some fantastic technology on display.

Justice League Dark - Sigh, seems like a good New 52 adaptation is still a long way off. Better than the previous ones, but that's not saying much.

War Dogs
Good movie.

Batman Return of the Caped Crusaders
New animated movie with Adam West & Burt Ward.
Based on the old TV show, so its very campy & puns galore!

Fences - Good movie but is pretty much a 2 hour speech Denzel being great as usual

Sadako vs Kayako - Expected it to be more light hearted and silly between the 2 of them instead they went for a more serious horror tone which I don't think was the best decision.

The Magnificent 7
Didn’t think it would be as good, as the other westerns that have been showing recently. But it was, really enjoyed it.

Hacksaw Ridge - It was ok, didn't find it that great, no idea why that dude was nominated for an Oscar for it.

Mad Max Renegade - fan made short film that fits in between in Mad Max and Road Warrior. Real star is the V8 Interceptor and of course the origin of Max's 'buddy' in Road Warrior.

Hardcore Henry - moments of tremendous action/music interspersed with utter crap. I hated it at the one hour mark but enjoyed it by the end. Can imagine it being very polarizing. Inspired use of the Stranglers and Queen though.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - loved the idea but so boring in the execution. Waste of a decent cast. Being boring is a more cardinal offence for a film than being bad.

The Shallows
Good shark attack movie, with Blake Lively.
The CGI shark looked pretty impressive.

Batman did not have to hang around, the others were good enough. But I suppose the kids today don't know who Etrigan, Swamp Thing & Deadman are. So they need a familiar face.

Better Living through Chemistry - watchable I guess. One of the five DVD/CDs I got for R100 when Look and Listen East Rand closed down at the end of January. I believe they are all closed now. Sad, I still remember driving to Hillbrow when that was the only branch. This was BEFORE CDs were a thing.

I used to go there every weekend, got all by CDs/DVDs there. Still remember when they were called CD Warehouse. Then their prices went up, & I started buying online. Now it will just turn into another furniture/clothes shop. Cause we don't have enough of those.

@KF500 - Yeah maybe, the poor lady at the till said all of them but it is possible seeing that was the 'HQ'.

The original record shops were Look and Listen (Hillbrow), Hillbrow Record Centre and Street Records (Braamfontein). CD Warehouse opened later in Rosebank. Look and Listen and CD Warehouse merged sometime afterwards.

Sad days are these.

Maybe we are lucky and it ends being a huge shop just selling bed linen or even better that cheap plastic tat. We can never have enough of them.

@KF and Scottie: theres also a Look and Listen shop at the Hillfox centre in Roodepoort. For how long it'll stay open is anyone's guess though

While sad that CD stores are closing down, it is understandable. Go into Musica these days and you will see more stuff at the front related to music peripherals like speakers and headphones than CDs. Unfortunately we've become used to digital distribution for music and that's killing CD sales. Games will go that way, it is like that on PC already and with all the sales and the increasing ubiquity of fibre in our neighbourhoods I expect sales via XBL and PSN will rise and soon only those hardcore fans will want to buy physical.

Digital is far more convenient and we crave convenience and perceived savings via sales over physical.

@Andrew If there are still any left open by the end of the year, I will be surprised.

@Magius Musica & L&L had to branch out, & try sale other things besides DVDs /CDs. L&L tried board games & other miscellaneous stuff, nobody bought into it. & they can't compete with online prices.
The only reason Music is still going, is because they are affiliated with Clicks. As far as I know?
CNA seems to be nearing the light as well.
