No one is stopping you from enjoying the FFVII Reamke games. But my point still stands, it's poorly written fanfiction. First time I played Final Fantasy VII was in 1999. Final Fantasy VII and Resident Evil 1(I still have both), were my first 2 PlayStation 1 games. So I've played Final Fantasy VII numerous times over the years. What what the Remake games are, are nothing more than imitators.

It's mass market slop at it's finest. Does it make it terrible games? Not at all, Remake Part 1 was fairly decent. But let's not pretend that any of the remake games are as good as the original. I hope Square Enix doesn't touch Final Fantasy VIII. Because they'll ruin that as well.

@phreak - Dont't get me wrong, many fans have valid criticism's with the game and I respect that. And It sucks when a game you're excited for doesn't hit the way you'd hope. I mean as fans we want to enjoy all entries in our favourite franchises.

I feel that as I'm getting older I rather just enjoy games for what they are.

One thing that I am not happy with is that FFVII Revelation will not be fully on disc, even though physical discs are included.

I'm a pretty hardcore FF fan but if you love the Remake series, as I do, you also kind of have to understand that a lot of contentious decisions were made in the story and it's just not gonna land with some people. I totally get why some folks don't like it or agree with the changes.

I do hope however that the announcement of FFXVII is close, feels like the FF fandom needs a new mainline title to reset after the Remake series lol

Hope it lives up to your expectations and you love it.
Always sucks to not be with happy for a game you were excited about.

@phreak - that I understand. Rabid defenders are rarely better than those that hate on a game. If you like a game or series, it makes sense you want to discuss what it could have done better or where it might go in the future.

Think people have become to comfortable with giving simplistic aggressive responses, attaching a strong emotion to it as justification, then calling it a day.

I will never deny that the FF7 remake games have good graphics, runs well and a great combat system.
Those parts are really well done. It's other things I don't like

As I said, I hope everyone excited for it enjoys it.
Won't deny you that ever. Hope you love it.
I'm just tired of being insulted for not liking changes I feel are disrespectful to the original. Changes I won't talk about here due to spoilers.

@phreak @IcariX - Everyone is entitled to their opinions but personally I am excited for Revelations. I never played the OG FFVII until 2006ish.

Loved it, but the remakes are even better. The combat, graphics and party interactions are great.

Played Remake and while it does have its slow parts i.e walking simulator. It's still a great game. Played Rebirth last month only and it was even better, much more exploration, and yes while there is a ton of side content - most of it is optional.

It was a joy to see Zack again and play as him. and I think in the remakes Aerith's characterisation is miles better than Tifa.

I am hyped for Revelations and cant wait for more.

I am not a purist so do not care much with the story changes, by the end of the trilogy I doubt there will be any crazy differences to the actual ending of FFVII.

Resonance will be my GOTY though, I can see it already.

Elitism is fine except when people lose sense of the context in which games (or any other media) are made.

We're shifting into a bipolar market - maybe exacerbated by social media - where things are near perfect and therefore worth money/time, or people fixate on flaws without considering things like the developers cultural setting, size, budget, development time, and publisher influence.

Increasingly problematic when a few flaws lead to small teams (and sometimes bigger ones) collectively trashed for one or two elements with no regard given for everything else the games/series/movie does well.

Does not bode well as that ultimately means more safe bets and more homogenisation (especially in the console market where creative indie titles don't sell nearly as many copies as on PC).

I will, but tech gets old. This is now the horrible stretch of transistion.
If your Ps3 freaks out / gets eaten / runs away with the xbox, do you buy a new one or wait for a Ps4?

Sony made some lofty promises and unveiled big ideas. Now we will have to see if they can implement. And what will the costs be? Not just money, but privacy (social media my arse. Spying is more like it), extra peripherals, bandwith etc.

History has shown that people will complain about it and then go repurchase the content, so Sony knows they can do it and get away with it.

@DG

I dont mind repurchasing my ps3 games, but having to pay for a third in some cases fourth time for final fantasy agaiiiin which will probably not work when the ps5 is released is highly annoying.

Especially when digital downloads pose absolutely no collectors nor resale value.

Not to mention, that all it takes is coding to make them compatible to the machine.

I however do mind paying for ps3 games again, it's not like they're cheap either digitally or physically, and then to also only be able to stream them!

Part of my issue with this, and it's the same as with online only games like Diablo 3, is that, unlike with the ps2 etc, 10 years from now, if your console is still working, you can play them again. What happens if for some inexplicable reason, Blizzard goes bankrupt, you're left with a game you spent R500 + on that is no longer usable through no fault of your own. It's SP yet you can't play it because the server no longer exists. Wonderful. And the same goes for a streaming game service. What happens if Sony goes bankrupt and noone wants or can afford to foot the bill for keeping those servers up and running. PS3 games you've paid for twice and are no longer usable, wonderful.

And people can say, hey, it's Sony, they're huge, they'll never go under. But noone knows what the future holds and in the financial climate the world is in right now and liable to head into? There's no guarantees.

My question though is they say the dont want emulation sucking up all the machines power?

Your telling me that this machine is not powerful enough to emulate ps1 games and ps2 games? Hell it doesnt even have to be native, you can open up an entirely seperate app and browse for the games for all I care.

But I mean I can successful emulate playstation two games on my pc, which is nowhere near as powerful as these specs, but they cant make an emulation app?

Something doesnt sit right with me there.

I'm of two minds about that. Until a couple of years back modern pc's couldn't emulate old arcade games like Ghosts and Goblins properly, lol.

No, I think they're been full of rubbish on that myself. If the machine, with those specs can't emulate the games properly, it says there's a problem with the coders, not the machine.

If they said they needed to cut the cost of the machine by removing the emulation chip so the machine would be cheaper for consumers, that would make sense.

Unless the architecture is radically different, like the PS3's which means the games don't run efficiently on the hardware because it handles certain functions differently or doesn't do them at all, that makes sense, but then the last 2 years have shown how lucrative HD updates can be, which again comes back to coding, or in this case, recoding.

But to me it says, "We're gonna milk you anyway we can.", by making sure if you want to play the games you love, you're going to have to keep rebuying them.

This is exactly the reason.

PS2 architecture is radically different from PS3 architecture which is radically different from PS4 architecture.

We already know this from yesterdays presentation. The ides of PS4 not playing PS3 games is old news and should have been accepted by now. Unless the PS4 comes with a CELL chip built into it, which is not going to happen since that is the most costly piece of hardware on the PS3.

This also explains why PSN games wont make the transfer... they are built for the PS3 CELL processor. It is not that simple to just emulate that considering its such a different design approach to handling coding than traditional PC architectures.

PSN GAMES NOT TRANSFERABLE

Heard about this a short while ago..... such a load of BS!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunate but the technical argument makes sense. Hopefully if they do get the streaming service through Gaikai running we won't be charged for our PS3 games again. I did say hopefully...

I am not phased about the ps3 stuff I am talking ps1 and ps2 here.

I am running a X86cpu 3.2ghz quad core with 8gig of ram and a 1gig 512bit interface radeon video card.

PS1 I can emulate any game I have tried properly and even improve how it looks via shaders and numerous other plug ins.

Ps2 I have emulated virtually all games with out a problem save for some cut scenes, the same actually goes for my Wii.

All this emulation software made by third party people most of them collage students or even younger with out access to all sonys coding after the year.

And people want to tell me a machine that powerful could not open up a separate app and run at least ps1 and ps2 games under emulation with out massive problems?

Yeah I am sorry, I'm calling [censored] on that. PS3 emulation I can agree with no problems given that the machine itself is still a power house, but when I have seen a mid range pc by todays specs running ps1 & ps2 games with out problems yeah.

The other option is that when this Gakai service comes into play they see all the digital content you already have and you dont pay for it again, but the likely hood of that happening is next to nothing.

Yes you want the ps4 for ps4 games, but to be quite honest some of the most fun I have had this generation has been replaying my old ps1 games that I have downloaded digitally.

There has really been so pathetically[censored] all with games this generation that has really stuck with me. To be honest the only four games that have really stuck in my mind are Valkyria Chronicles, Tales Of Vesperia, Xenoblade chronicles and The Last Story.

So now having to go and buy all these ps1 titles and ps2 titles again is beyond annoying especially when there is no longer any form of resale value available.

I have no intention of selling my ps3 under this case but my ps3 is now old and one day is probably going to go on me some day soon.

I just find it ridiculous that we are going down the road of you want to play something you bought your going to need to have to keep every console you over own or a stupid amount of money to rebuy everything.

There is no technical reason why the Xbox should not support BC for X360 or XBLA games. Interesting to see if they include it or whether they decide not to since Sony hasn't/can't.

“At this time we have no official release date or recommended retail price for South Africa. We are however confident that a simultaneous release will shortly be available for all major territories. Ster Kinekor Entertainment expect to have more details on release strategy in the next few weeks,” Mario Dos Santos, chief executive officer of Ster Kinekor Entertainment, told News24.

At the PlayStation Meeting yesterday, Sony revealed that its new console ships with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, not the 4GB we previously reported. It was a pleasant surprise not just for us, but also for many game developers out there working on PS4 titles now and completely unaware of the upgrade - a final flourish to the design seemingly added in at the last moment to make PlayStation 4 the most technologically advanced games console of the next gaming era.

From an engineering perspective, it's a remarkable achievement. Sony itself doesn't fabricate memory, it buys from major suppliers who advertise the parts available months (sometimes years) ahead of delivery, so we have a decent idea of what options the platform holders have on the table in creating their next-gen systems. The GDDR5 memory modules - the same used in PC graphics cards - are only available in certain configurations, with the densest option available offering 512MB per module. The startling reality is that unless Sony has somehow got access to a larger chip that isn't yet in mass production and that nobody knows about, it has crammed 16 memory modules onto its PS4 motherboard. To illustrate the extent of the achievement, Nvidia's $1000 graphics card - the GeForce Titan - offers "just" 6GB of onboard GDDR5.

Despite Sony showing the currently-available PS Move controller being used with PS4 during the console's unveiling event on Wednesday, the firm says the new console will not support the use of the standard DualShock 3 controller.

"No, [the PlayStation 4] doesn't support DualShock 3 but it does support PS Move," clarified Sony Shuhei Yoshida to Polygon.

The reasons are unclear since the DS3 controller uses the same industry-standard Bluetooth 2.0 tech as the Move controller to connect with PS3, which suggests PS4 will have Bluetooth 2.0 capabilities.

A Sony rep interrupted further questioning regarding the use of other PS3 peripherals with PS4, such as the wireless Bluetooth headset. "I don't think we're addressing additional peripheral support at this time," they said.

Yoshida added, "That doesn't necessarily mean it won't work."

Update: Purchased PSN games 'could' be transferred to PS4 - Yoshida

Yoshida has told Polygon that it could be possible for PS4's future cloud services to recognise users' PS3 PS Store purchases, if Sony should "choose" to make it so.

"We could do so if we choose to," he said. "We know who purchased what as a record. But we are working on service plans and we haven't decided."

@Woofles and everybody else

One thing to consider is that the PS4 might not play your old PS1 or PS2 titles, but the Vita will.
So, if you have the golden collection (PS4 AND Vita, the way they want you to) you could still play everything.

Still, buying both is a fat wad of dosh. Maybe we will see a combo pack?

And if I dont feel like playing my games on small screen or trying to grip a handheld?

I know first world problems, but thats still something that gets on my [censored].

So I certainly hope sony "chooses" to transfer them across.

Then my only complaint is that it will be streaming, but hey as long as I dont have to pay again I wont bitch.
