Twisted Metal was once a prolific vehicular combat gaming franchise back in the day, though it has seen a steady decline in popularity, ending with the rebooted Twisted Metal game on PlayStation 3. However, there have been rumours of remasters or remakes in the works, with fans hopeful of a revival. While it may still be unclear in the gaming industry, the television industry seemingly has other plans in mind. A new television series based on Twisted Metal is in the works, and it's got quite a stellar team behind it.

Variety reports that Twisted Metal will get an action-comedy television series from PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures TV. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind Deadpool and Zombieland, will write this live-action adaptation. Michael Jonathan Smith, who worked on Cobra Kai, will lend his talents as a writer and producer too. "Twisted Metal is one of the most beloved franchises from PlayStation," said Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. "We are thrilled to have such a great team working on bringing this iconic game to life for the fans."
The Twisted Metal series was originally envisioned by designer David Jaffe, who went on to create the God of War video games, and Scott Campbell. The first game released on the original PlayStation in 1995, and has since seen several sequels over the years. Unfortunately, the series faded away from the public spotlight since the PlayStation 3 era, but it still has a cult following to this day. If this new television series is any hope, then we wonder if PlayStation has plans to revive the gaming franchise too. Meanwhile, PlayStation Productions is slowly moving ahead with television and movie adaptations based on their exclusive properties, two of which being the upcoming Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland, and The Last of Us' HBO series starring Pedro Pascal.
