Rumour: Far Cry 6 Reveal Coming in July, Returns to "Exotic Location"
Ubisoft's North American setting for Far Cry 5, taking place in the fictional state of Hope County, was met with a mixed reception following the more exotic and grand locations of both the tropical archipelago of the Rook Islands and the Himalayas from Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4, respectively. Since the first game in the series, Far Cry has always tackled locations that would otherwise contrast with the over-the-top action elements, making for unique experiences, but Hope County felt surprisingly subdued in its open world design. Thanks to a recent rumour, it looks like the series might be returning to an exotic location again with the sixth installment, reportedly planned to be unveiled next month.

GameReactor.dk reports that Far Cry 6 will be unveiled at Ubisoft Forward on July 12th (though could potentially leak if Ubisoft pushes the event up). Far Cry 6 will, according to the report, ditch the North American rural setting for an exotic location again. What they mean by "exotic location" is anyone's guess, as it could be many locations on Earth. If it means going for a more tropical setting like the first Far Cry and Far Cry 3, then it would certainly be a surprise and a welcomed return to form (and for many, a return to the best game in the series, that being FC3). However, as with all rumours, we recommend taking this with a grain of salt.
If this report is true, then Far Cry 6 will be one of the five big Ubisoft titles to release before the end of this fiscal year (ending April 2021), as some may have already guessed. It's unknown if the title will be strictly next-gen, or be cross-gen and still launch on current consoles. It will be interesting to see what new villain(s) await us in the next Far Cry, as the series is applauded for having some of the most memorable and well-written antagonists in all of gaming. Personally, I'd love for a Far Cry title to feature dinosaurs (Primal doesn't count), as that's something fans have been more than mildly curious about ever since the idea was suggested.
Far Cry 6 is reportedly in development.
