No one is stopping you from enjoying the FFVII Reamke games. But my point still stands, it's poorly written fanfiction. First time I played Final Fantasy VII was in 1999. Final Fantasy VII and Resident Evil 1(I still have both), were my first 2 PlayStation 1 games. So I've played Final Fantasy VII numerous times over the years. What what the Remake games are, are nothing more than imitators.

It's mass market slop at it's finest. Does it make it terrible games? Not at all, Remake Part 1 was fairly decent. But let's not pretend that any of the remake games are as good as the original. I hope Square Enix doesn't touch Final Fantasy VIII. Because they'll ruin that as well.

@phreak - Dont't get me wrong, many fans have valid criticism's with the game and I respect that. And It sucks when a game you're excited for doesn't hit the way you'd hope. I mean as fans we want to enjoy all entries in our favourite franchises.

I feel that as I'm getting older I rather just enjoy games for what they are.

One thing that I am not happy with is that FFVII Revelation will not be fully on disc, even though physical discs are included.

I'm a pretty hardcore FF fan but if you love the Remake series, as I do, you also kind of have to understand that a lot of contentious decisions were made in the story and it's just not gonna land with some people. I totally get why some folks don't like it or agree with the changes.

I do hope however that the announcement of FFXVII is close, feels like the FF fandom needs a new mainline title to reset after the Remake series lol

@phreak - that I understand. Rabid defenders are rarely better than those that hate on a game. If you like a game or series, it makes sense you want to discuss what it could have done better or where it might go in the future.

Think people have become to comfortable with giving simplistic aggressive responses, attaching a strong emotion to it as justification, then calling it a day.

I will never deny that the FF7 remake games have good graphics, runs well and a great combat system.
Those parts are really well done. It's other things I don't like

Won't deny you that ever. Hope you love it.
I'm just tired of being insulted for not liking changes I feel are disrespectful to the original. Changes I won't talk about here due to spoilers.

@phreak @IcariX - Everyone is entitled to their opinions but personally I am excited for Revelations. I never played the OG FFVII until 2006ish.

Loved it, but the remakes are even better. The combat, graphics and party interactions are great.

Played Remake and while it does have its slow parts i.e walking simulator. It's still a great game. Played Rebirth last month only and it was even better, much more exploration, and yes while there is a ton of side content - most of it is optional.

It was a joy to see Zack again and play as him. and I think in the remakes Aerith's characterisation is miles better than Tifa.

I am hyped for Revelations and cant wait for more.

I am not a purist so do not care much with the story changes, by the end of the trilogy I doubt there will be any crazy differences to the actual ending of FFVII.

Resonance will be my GOTY though, I can see it already.

Elitism is fine except when people lose sense of the context in which games (or any other media) are made.

We're shifting into a bipolar market - maybe exacerbated by social media - where things are near perfect and therefore worth money/time, or people fixate on flaws without considering things like the developers cultural setting, size, budget, development time, and publisher influence.

Increasingly problematic when a few flaws lead to small teams (and sometimes bigger ones) collectively trashed for one or two elements with no regard given for everything else the games/series/movie does well.

Does not bode well as that ultimately means more safe bets and more homogenisation (especially in the console market where creative indie titles don't sell nearly as many copies as on PC).

I can't wait for Resonance. But the more I hear Square Enix talk about Revelations, the less I'm interested in playing it.

I've been called an elitist as well. But the whole Remake trilogy so far feels like poorly written fanfiction. I hope Square Enix stays far far far away from Final Fantasy VIII

Resident Evil 3 Producer Explains Jill Valentine's Redesign

Capcom's remakes of both Resident Evil 2 and the upcoming Resident Evil 3 have seen several character redesigns from Leon S. Kennedy to Claire Redfield, including Resident Evil 7 which redesigned Chris Redfield. However, the third game will also be given the character redesign treatment as the reveal trailer showcased the new design for protagonist Jill Valentine. Some fans have compared it to Milla Jovovich's likeliness from her character, Alice, in the Resident Evil movies, but a producer on the game has given us a better explanation.

In issue 343 of Edge (thanks, GamesRadar), Resident Evil 3 producer Peter Fabiano spoke to the magazine about redesigning Jill Valentine for the upcoming remake. He mentions Jill's new design as a more practical and realistic choice (the original game had Jill dressed in a tube top and mini skirt, not exactly fitting attire for a zombie onslaught). Fabiano said:

"When we approached Jill, if you look at the original we had to do what we needed to make her stand out. But with this game, everything is on a photorealistic level; it’s more of a believable atmosphere we’re trying to create. We want to have a Jill that fit in that, but still stayed true to her original personality and essence. And that’s really how we came about the new Jill."

Resident Evil 3 will receive a lengthy gameplay dive from the developers later today, so stay tuned. Additionally, the upcoming remake will also receive a demo, though a date for the demo has yet to be announced by Capcom.

Resident Evil 3 releases on April 3, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
