Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy XIV are officially crossing over, featuring collaboration content between the two games. This is similar to when Monster Hunter World crossed over with Final Fantasy XIV and vice versa, giving Capcom’s title the Behemoth hunt while Square Enix’s MMORPG received a Rathalos quest.
In the case of the Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy XIV crossovers, the latter will get Seikrets (which are basically chocobos anyway) and Wilds’ flagship monster, Arkveld, to fight. As for Wilds, it will be getting chocobo designs for Seikrets, Cactuar, and the machine monster, Omega Planetes.
The update for Monster Hunter Wilds will arrive as a free update in late September, while Final Fantasy XIV will get its Wilds content update in early October.
Monster Hunter fans initially suspected that Bahamut, one of the iconic dragons from the Final Fantasy universe, would be the new crossover monster but it seems like Capcom is leaning heavily into bolstering its Construct Monster class, of which Omega Planetes is an ideal fit. According to the lore, Omega Planetes is a god-like machine entity that managed to defeat pretty powerful dragons stronger than Bahamut, if you’re worried it might not be on the same difficulty wave as Behemoth.
In related news, Capcom says it will continue to work on improving the PC version of Monster Hunter Wilds until winter this year and beyond. The PC version was heavily criticised for its numerous technical issues and poor performance when it launched earlier this year, but a recent update apparently managed to fix quite a lot of hiccups.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Final Fantasy XIV Online is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Watch both of the crossover trailers below:
