Hollywood is attempting to make a live-action Metal Gear Solid movie for the second time now and this time, they’re hiring Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the directing duo behind Final Destination Bloodlines. Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts was previously attached to direct Hideo Kojima’s stealth-action movie adaptation – with Oscar Isaac attached to star as Solid Snake – but it seems like those plans fell through.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Lipovsky and Stein were now attached to direct the Metal Gear Solid movie for Konami and Sony’s Columbia Pictures. “Metal Gear Solid was nothing short of a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionised video games,” said the directors in a joint statement. “We are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life.”



It’s unclear if the new directors will keep Oscar Isaac on board as Solid Snake, who seems to be an ideal fit for the role, according to the fanbase. It’s speculated that they might take a different direction and opt for another actor to play Solid Snake but we’ll have to wait and see what their plans are.

A movie adaptation of Metal Gear Solid has actually been in the works since 2012, though it went through several setbacks and rough patches. For a time, it seemed like Vogt-Roberts – who is a huge fan of the video game franchise himself – was a shoo-in to direct the movie. The full story behind what happened to cause Sony to switch out directors remains to be heard.

As for the video games, Konami is gearing up to release Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 later this year which will contain Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, finally making its way to modern consoles after being trapped as a PlayStation 3 exclusive for nearly two decades, alongside Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in a remastered package.
