@Magius - "A quick DA2 Demo (PC) review"
Quick side note - Has anyone checked out the PS3 and Xbox 360 demos yet? Is the Xbox getting screwed again in the textures department?
A few questions:
- Do skill trees allow you to bypass skills this time?
- Can you still pause and only stack up one command?
- Can you still customize allies using the condition-target-action script?
- While customization of your race/looks are limited do the dialogue choices at least contrast well? I found in ME2 even choosing the paragon options would make Shepard sound like a smarmy d!ck in places unlike ME1 where personalities were better defined.
- And finally do you know if there's still an option for a ranger character? I'll be bleak if this is the first Black-Ilse\Bioware RPG I've played over the last decade without an animal companion.
Hey man,
- The skill tree looks like you can choose which way to go. So if you want, let's say rapid shot instead of pinning shot (archery) yo can choose that, but some skills require a prior skill. So Pinning shot is a prerequisite for another skill. Basically they have just cleaned up the previous skill tree to make it flow a bit better.
-When I played, it only seemed you stack one ability/command at a time. I think this is to make the game more action orientated. But I am not 100% sure so will check tonight and get back to you. I had actually forgot about that from KOTOR.
-It seems that they did do a better job with the dialog in matching tone with the choice, but the demo doesn't go into that much detail, at least the few minutes I played.
-Your options are limited to the classes of DA:O so fighter, Mage, Rogue. The Fighter and Mage can be customised to use ranged attacks and probably the other Ranger skills such as tracking etc and the Mage does double duty as a healer (cleric), spellcaster. I don't think that there are animal companions, except the Mabari Wardog that they will unlock if they get 1m demo downloads. But that is not a companion the way you want it as it then takes up a character slot in your party.
IMO this game, like ME2, is more an action game with RPG elements. For some reason Bioware seems to think that RPGs as we knew them just won't sell anymore. I always though that Bioware's compromise between real time and turn based using the pause function was perfect, too bad they seem to think that, that is not what is wanted or worthwhile anymore.
