EA have jumped onto the Nintendo Switch port remaster bandwagon with Burnout Paradise Remastered being made available on the console. Burnout Paradise Remastered originally launched in 2018 on PS4, Xbox One and PC via Origin. For those unfamiliar with the remastered version, everything that made the original Burnout Paradise game great way back in 2008 is present in the upgrade. The remaster featured spruced up visuals as well as all the additional DLC packs with the exception of the Time Savers DLC. Gamers who missed out on the original Burnout Paradise in 2008 and the remastered version in 2018 now have another platform to play the game on in 2020.



First and foremost, it’s worth mentioning that the Nintendo Switch port of Burnout Paradise Remastered is by no means shoddy. The game looks absolutely gorgeous in handheld mode and runs incredibly smooth too. This is remarkable considering that Burnout Paradise’s game world is rather large and open-world. Boosting down long roads into the city and out again back up the mountains is surprisingly problem free. One would expect the Nintendo Switch to struggle somewhat when you’re speeding along the roads and flying off ramps but playing the game is a hassle-free experience throughout. The developers have done a great job porting the game to Switch and it runs great in both docked and handheld mode. Visually there have been some slight changes to the game to get it to run smoothly but these don’t detract from its core content much.

Burnout Paradise Remastered is from an era of gaming where hand-holding isn’t as prevalent as it is now...

Gameplay in Burnout Paradise Remastered is the same as it’s always been. Players will take on the role of a brand new driver in Paradise City that has to work their way up the racing ranks to unlock new cars. Players will upgrade their drivers license by taking part in a range of races and other challenges that are unlocked as you explore Paradise City. Burnout Paradise Remastered is from an era of gaming where hand-holding isn’t as prevalent as it is now and as such, there’s a lot of freedom in-game. You can go wherever you want to in Paradise City and choose to take on an immense amount of content at your own pace. Alternatively you can also just cruise around at high speeds exploring the city and that’s one of the best parts about the game.



Newcomers to the game might find the sheer amount of content available slightly daunting but this is where the Nintendo Switch’s handheld mode helps the game to truly excel. Being able to pick up and play the game whenever you want in handheld mode is quite literally a game changing experience. Burnout Paradise Remastered is still, at its core, an arcade style racing game and being able to quickly do a race or two or crash your car in the “Showtime” mode on the go is great. Arguably it is true that the Nintendo Switch version of the game isn’t the true best version of it, however it really is enjoyable to pick up and play. If you plan to play Burnout Paradise Remastered with the Switch in docked mode on a TV though, it will be a better idea to play it on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One instead since those will deliver better visuals and the game is way more affordable on those platforms than it is on Switch right now.

Having access to the other DLC packages also means that players will have access to some really great cars from the get-go...

Burnout Paradise Remastered on Nintendo Switch does feature an online mode with refreshed gameplay servers so players can choose to race against others should they feel like it. Players will also have access to Big Surf Island which was a large DLC expansion for the original game filled with stunt orientated challenges. Having access to the other DLC packages also means that players will have access to some really great cars from the get-go as well as a few bikes to ride. Should you want to experience the game in its original form though, we don’t recommend using the better cars from the DLC until you work your way up through the ranks unlocking the normal cars available in the game.



Overall, Burnout Paradise Remastered on Nintendo Switch is an excellent port and one that both seasoned veterans and newcomers alike can enjoy. Whether you’ve played Burnout Paradise more than a decade ago or not, the Switch version is a great choice to play the game on the go. At its current price point, it may deter many gamers from picking it up on Nintendo Switch but should you want to play it on the go, this is definitely well worth picking up. If you’re a fan of arcade racers from an era of gaming long gone by, this will keep you busy for hours and hours on end. Now if only we could get a new entry into the Burnout franchise that’s as good as Paradise City...
