Yesterday, Nintendo officially announced a new Direct Partner showcase which will run for approximately 25 minutes and reportedly have a “heavy focus” on third-party titles potentially coming to the Switch 2. While it isn’t the first-party showcase that fans might’ve been expecting, it will be great to see which third-party games are coming over to the improved hardware of the Switch 2. Here’s when and where to watch the event.
Nintendo confirmed in a post on social media yesterday that it will host its new Direct Partner showcase featuring “roughly 25 minutes of information on upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch games from our publishing partners.” Ahead of the event, rumours began circulating online of possible announcements for Red Dead Redemption 2, Borderlands 4 and even more Xbox exclusives making their way to the new system.
As for when you can watch the showcase, it will take place today, 31 July at 15:00 SAST or 06:00 PT.
There are a few options to watch the Nintendo Partner Direct. Nintendo provided a link to its official YouTube stream which is currently counting down to the showcase. We’ve also embedded it below for your convenience.
As mentioned before, we can expect a focus on third-party games as is common with Partner Direct showcases. The original Nintendo Switch, which had its fair share of third-party support and some “miracle” ports like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and DOOM, wasn’t the strongest hardware to run most third-party games on the market. As a result, developers had to take some shortcuts to get certain games running on the system, leading to heavily stripped back or technically problematic ports like Hogwarts Legacy, Batman: Arkham Knight and most infamously, Mortal Kombat 1.
The Switch 2 is perfectly capable of running Cyberpunk 2077, arguably one of the more graphically intense games out right now, with little to no compromises, so it will be interesting to see how other third-party titles fare on the new hardware.
