Mortal Kombat 12 Won’t be Announced at Evo 2022 Says Ed Boon
PlayStation recently announced its Evo 2022 live show called PlayStation Tournaments: Evo Lounge, which will feature ‘exciting’ game reveals from the industry’s biggest fighting game studios. However, it seems like that might exclude NetherRealm Studios now as Mortal Kombat series co-creator Ed Boon has stated that Mortal Kombat 12 – or anything Mortal Kombat-related – won’t be announced at the event.
Responding to an article on Twitter about PlayStation’s live show potentially featuring an announcement from NetherRealm Studios, Boon claimed that there won’t be anything announced for Mortal Kombat at the event. Instead, Boon wants the focus to be on Street Fighter 6 and “other great fighting games.”

It’s speculated that the developers behind Tekken and Guilty Gear, Bandai Namco and Arc System Works, are both announcing new titles at Evo 2022, with the former potentially being Tekken 8. Sadly, NetherRealm won’t be joining the festivities, at least not for Mortal Kombat. Some fans believe that the studio might have something to show for Injustice, though that seems unlikely given Boon’s recent comment.
That said, Mortal Kombat 12 has already made several rumour laps over the past year. Early reports suggested that it could be a “legacy” title with the largest character roster since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Recently, Johnny Cage mo-cap actor Andrew Bowen teased in a now-deleted social media post that he was potentially working on the next Mortal Kombat game.
Needless to say, NetherRealm is likely hard at work on the next entry in its beloved, gory fighting game franchise but are remaining tight-lipped for now about it.
In the meantime, players can still enjoy the heaps of content contained in Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, which brings together every piece of DLC released for the base game in one definitive package.
