@DG: Oh ok, was never a big reader (or rather, at all) of WW pre-New 52, but I'm generally liking what I've seen so far.

Kick Ass Volume 2.
DAMN!!! & you thought the violence it the first one was heavy!!!
Really enjoyed it, but half that stuff won’t make it into the movie!!! The movies tend to go there own way though, like the last one! I loved the movie, & not following the comic exactly, means just because you read the comic, does not mean you know what is gana happen in the movie!! I see there is one volume left of Kick Ass to come out, hope they do a movie of that one as well!!



I see there is a prelude to Volume 2 called Hit Girl, just focusing on her!

After having both on my shelf for probably a year or 3, finally sat down with The Boys Vol. 1 and JTHM.
The Boys was pretty fantastic, a lot of shock factor, but love the way it's done. Does feel like a believable world having heroes be inconsiderate douches that need supervision from other powers. Quite a colorful roster of characters thus far, and definitely not for kids.
Just wish the TPBs weren't so expensive, as now I'm dying for more.

JTHM is on its own level of depravity and insanity. If you're an Invader Zim fan, you may be somewhat accustomed to the type of humor Vasquez writes, though with Johnny, there are no boundaries. Violent, crude, nonsensical yet whimsical, it's really quite unique.
It is however difficult to read all in one go. I think after a while you become almost too comfortable with it, almost as if Vasquez has tried his best to bombard you with foul imagery so you're conditioned to ignore it. Perhaps he wants us all to embrace our inner Nny...
In any case, it's great, but I only read half way, will digest it in pieces.

Hit Girl.
Takes place in between volume 1 & 2 of Kick Ass. Kick Ass is there, but it focuses more on Hit Girl.

Injustice Gods Among US.
Got issue one with the CE game. Need to get the rest now, its pretty interesting!!

The last few Spawn issues have all had parody covers!
Its cool figuring out which ones they are covering! Superman, Spider Man, Watchmen, The Walking Dead...
But this one i had to get! McFarlane did the original Batman one!




Okay there are about 10 issues at the moment of these Spawn parody/tribute covers at the moment! So i have ordered the other 9! There are some VERY cool ones!!!

Legends of the Dark Knight. The book started our telling stories from Batman's early career to even out of continuity stories. The book can be uneven as creators rotated with each story arc, but on the whole they are damn good.

Batman: Arkham Asylum - A Serious House on Serious Earth.
Take two of comicdom's most wacked out writer and artist, give them a book together and this is what you get.
Grant Morrison can sometimes be a bit hard to swallow, unless you're taking the same drugs as him, but in this case the story is quite well done, with a ton of symbolism that can be difficult to crack, but generally remains easy to read. Couple that with Dave McKean's erratic, dream-like art, and it fits well. It can be tricky to see what exactly is going on, and though the different lettering is a nice touch, it can be difficult to read sometimes.
Not bad overall, but can't recommend it unless you're a Batman fan.

Sandman Vol 6. Read a while back. It's all stand-alone stories in this volume, one or two are ok, some are great, and one or two are absolutely fantastic.

Sandman, vol 7. Started last night, got half way as I was super tired. So far so good, Dream is as broody as ever

ASM: Back in Black
This was a great book, loved seeing Spidey turn into a much rougher, emotionally unstable person seeking revenge. Best part was that he wasn't moping around so much as just kicking arse and taking names trying to find his aunt's shooter. The scene with him and the Kingpin was some of the best writing I've read.
Can't say the same for the supplementary material from Spectacular Spidey (I think). Pretty uninteresting side story with Sandman, though I enjoyed the confrontation at the end with JJJ.

ASM: One More Day
Then of course came the controversial OMD storyline, where Pete gives up his marriage to MJ in order to save aunt May.
Aside from the aforementioned moping that Peter does now, going from friend to friend trying to get aid to save May, I actually didn't think it was that bad.
The biggest criticism is always that Marvel refuses to have Pete let go, and when you have a character who's so enamored with his lover, it's almost unrealistic to have him give her up only to keep his aunt around.
That may be true, but I for one bought his reasoning, that had it been due to natural causes, he would've been fine with it, but this time he felt responsible for it, which goes hand in hand with being who he is.
Sure, having Mephisto wave his hands and have so many plot points retconed was pretty weak.
But I really didn't think it was that bad. I didn't like that everyone knew his identity and I was finding MJ's presence more of a nuisance than a benefit to name a few.

Wasn't the best way to handle it, but it didn't make me want to throw the book away or stop reading, so yeah.

Darwyn's Cook's adaptations of the Parker books. Very cool books, love the art style, reminds me of those great movie posters from the 60's.

I agree, the scene between Peter and Kingpin was pure power. Unfortunately it was the only good thing from that story run/arc. That and him wearing black and of course the single issue covers were fantastic.

Tales of Suspense 38 - 44
Iron Man's first experience, it is such a weird thing to see how the story those many moons ago has evolved! wow, incredible. I never read iron man but this is pretty great stuff. not intriguig but just the imagination of it.

@DG: Indeed. I was actually considering getting the Peter Parker: Back in Black trade as well, since both make a quaint little silhouette of the black spider on the spine, but considering how terrible some of those side titles were at the time, I'll probably skip it.

This thing is HUGE!! It has all the Kiss comics i think, in this one collection!! Done by the McFarlane guys! So its got that Spawn look to it!!
Saw it at a book store for R500. Still thinking about it, R500 it pretty damn good imo!

Chunk of reading done over the past few weeks:

Sandman vol8-10:

Long story short, it's required reading (the entire series that is), though it's not easy reading. Lots of dialog, extensive references to both previous volumes of Sandman as well as other works of literature throughout the ages. But the core book is simply a must read. Compelling stories, amazing art and incredible characters that you just crave to see more of.
To quickly cover each volume, vol 8, Brief Lives, is mostly short stories. Some allude to important events that have happened in the past, some are side stories that have links to the larger story arc, and some tease what is to come.
Vol 9, The Kindly Ones, is both the largest volume as well as the concluding volume as it ties up the major story arc with no side stories.
Simply put this volume is incredible from start to finish.
Vol 10, The Wake, is the cherry on top, a volume that works primarily as an epilogue and bids farewell to all major characters. A strong, poignant ending that couldn't have been done better.

Locke & Key vol 1.
Oh, my, (insert preferred deity here). This book. Is. Amazeballs.
I was glued to every page, and it was a struggle to not power through subsequent volumes.
The story is so, sooooo damn good, and this is only the first volume. I'm dying to see more of what happens, dying to find out more about the history of each character, and dying to just explore more of this world.
The art is mind-blowing, not in the sense that it's good art, it's beautiful, gorgeous art. The artist is as talented as the best of them, but his style suits the book so astonishingly well, I don't think anybody else could do it justice. Every page, every panel, is presented with immaculate attention to detail and it works so well with the script, it's quite literally perfect for it.

This is probably the best creator owned comic book out there right now, and it goes without saying that I absolutely love it, and I absolutely can't recommend it enough.

Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, I will buy anything these two work on in the future.

Fun fact: Joe Hill is an established, highly praised author in his own right. Son of Stephen King, I highly recommend his novels as well.

@SurrealTiggi About that Spawn armageddon story line, Volume 17 tp is your best bet!
There is no actual armageddon, as Spawn stops it in time! I dont know if you want spoilers or not? But if you are looking for one Spawn tp, volume 17 is the one to get!

Checked on wiki as well and it looks like it'll be a bit further down the line. Vol 18 contains issues #105-#110 and the armageddon story is between issues #150-#164.
