@IkariX it's a good thing IDGAF about your opinion then, lol
It may surprise you to know that other people have different experiences to your own. But I know that concept may be too far out of reach for you.

As for Nexus, I don't know why you ban people that have legitimate points relating to polls you create. None of what I said was out of line, but clearly you prefer sycophants like IkariX on the forum instead of customers who have legitimate criticism of your logistics (which you make us pay for).

Nexushub has the best customer service no doubt. I have had other retailers that don't care about restocking on sold out titles but yet nexushub helped get me townfall steelbooks and control resonant steelbooks even though they were sold out. No one cares about delivery fees as long as you get the physical game in good condition like I have, especially steelbooks which can be fragile.

@DarkWingDuck

I'm going to call [censored] on your post. I've been buying from Nexus since the AnimeWorx days from about 2008. I have literally never ever had bad customer service from NexusHub. So you are being disingenuous. I don't think you appreciate the great lengths they go to, to get these games for us. But enjoy your other retailers and their[censored] service.

MrOde very good point! I'd pay extra for express overnight shipping.

HaseoVII SAME regarding FF7Rebirth (best believe I preordered Revelation though )

I am such a huge fan of Nexus Hub - no one else in SA imports the niche titles - I used to need to get my stuff from Amazon Japan/US

My backlog is so big I don't care how late I get my orders lol haven't even played FF7 Rebirth or even Stellar Blade yet, but that's just me.

I'd actually go even further and say do standard free shipping for all orders above R1000 but allow an express shipping option/add on for those that want to pay extra. I would gladly pay extra to get whatever I ordered the day after I order it.

Shipping costs on games? What's that?

I'm not looking to start a bad thread about this, I was really just curious because I misclicked the tab on the left and stumbled upon the poll (I'd never clicked it before).

I am fiercely brand loyal to Nexus Hub and I don't care too much about not getting a game day-1. I know other names like BT and Koodoo ship earlier so you get it on release, but I'd never be "that" excited that I must play day-1, life happens
On the other hand, paying an extra R150 every time you order a commercially available title does add up, and I would not blame the average consumer for trying to save some money.

I know I'd feel less off about it if there was a price match, and free delivery at a certain threshold.

I mean if I can save money, why wouldn't I?

Are there circumstances where I would pay that extra without thinking twice about it, yes. In general there's little reason to do so.

That said, touching on Darkwing's point of eBucks, payment options feel like a lot bigger point than the R50 delivery. Lot of places offering rewards, pay later, etc. Those are big pull points for customers.

For niche titles it's okay. Problem is I play mainly bigger titles. Games are expensive enough as is. If I can save 50 bucks, use my ebucks (which some retailers allow) then I'm definitely going with another retailer.

Basically if I have to choose between paying delivery or not I'm going to go for not paying for delivery. On top of that, I find my Nexus orders are usually delayed. I don't think I've ever received a game on release day which is annoying when you're paying extra for delivery especially. And often you have to ask where it is which I don't think the customer should have to do, that's part of customer service.

Seems a lot of these reviewers just don't get what No Man's sky is. "5/10" I mean really? This game is easily my favorite game I have played in years.

Again, perhaps that's the fault of Hello Games and Sony not really defining the experience enough prior to release? But where do you cross that line on retaining that mystery around the game and when is it a case of too much information provided on a new IP? Personally I'm grateful that this game is such a seemingly boundless sci-fi adventure that lets you craft your own journey to the final destination, while figuring out the mysteries of No Man's Sky's colorful (often bizarre) universe.

Regardless No Man's Sky has by far exceeded my expectations and I may be genuinely addicted to it

If you look at how Technomancer reviewed and actually played the game. You'd also think "what the hell were the reviewers playing" and I loved The technomancer. But I think that No Man's Sky is in the same boat with reviewers slamming the game and being negative and giving bad reviews. And then the actual players love the game. I personally don't pay much attention to reviews. But I do however feel that Sony and Hello Games could have been a bit more open about NMS. Still a great game regardless

LOL at that Jim Sterling review, even if I don't agree with it he always make me laugh.

"I’ve seen things you people would easily believe. I’ve not seen attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched no C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. There are no moments to lose in time like tears in procedurally generated rain.

Time to Sky."

@Scottie - the problem is these guys get more hits (money) from having controversial reviews. And it's becoming the norm nowadays. 5/10 is a harsh, undeserved review. If it's not your kind of game mention that and move on, review the game on it's merits for the gamers that actually do play those kinds of games.

I would hate to be a developer / publisher nowdays.

For some people the hype hit this game in the wrong way. Checking Metacritic most of the negative reviews are along the lines of "I was expecting something more". Now is that the devs or the users fault? Giving this game a 0 seems like an emotional response to me. There is no way that this is a zero even if you take out the gameplay and storyline – the visuals and music are stunning on their own. This is one of the main reasons I don’t give user reviews that much weight on these types of games/media. The critic reviews will likely have more on a non-emotional take on the game, but of course there will still be negative reviews from them as this is not a game for everyone and its not a perfect game either.

Something interesting on metacritic is that most of the extreme reviews (0 or 10) are from new accounts. Like this is sort of become a war between those slighted by not getting the game they (perhaps unreasonably) expected and the fan boys/girls.

For me I can say that is has been a loooong time since a game has had me playing into the early hours of the morning without even realising it.

After reading posts here and speaking to a couple of guys I am keen to try this, but probably when it hits Steam Sales or a second hand copy becomes available at less than R400 in about a year or so.

The exploration bit looks interesting and now that guys say there is some sort of storyline through the game I would be far more inclined to give it a chance.

To be fair, The Jimquisition website is funded by Patreon, not webpage advertising, but I agree - many reviewers come off as contrary for the sake of it.

Sometimes I think it's fatigue that comes through in these reviews. The downside of having too many comparison points and an inability to experience something "fresh".

Jim is important as one of the few gaming journalists to stand up to the SQW (Status Quo Warriors - his term) and their online vitriol. I notice CloudFlare is running anti DDOS measures on his site currently (from France anyway). LOL

Having said that you can never take his reviews seriously - Homefront got a review of 0 or 1 out of 10 for being '[censored][censored]'. This conclusion being arrived at after 1-2 hours of gameplay.

For my brief playthrough yesterday, which resulted in being swarmed by 4-5 sentinels and an early grave (after using a temple of sorts for resources) I would put it in 8-10/10 range.

@Scottie - he's done that on a few occasions in the past with reviews and it always brings up the argument over how much of a game needs to be played for review purposes?

As an example, I enjoyed The Technomancer by the and of it's 25-hour length but the first 6 or so hours post-prologue are truly awful (and most times that the game sends you back to the starting city Ofier). I'd give it a high 7/10 overall but if I had less patience, I'd have dropped it after a few hours and slammed it in review.

9 Planets down. Just got my warp hyperdrive. Still looking for Atlas pass. #NMSaddict

Just out of interest how many of you dicided to follow the atlas path in the beginning of the game or make your own way through the universe?

I wasn't quite sure what that choice meant (been trying to stay away from Spoilers), but I chose the first option.

I managed to find an Atlas Pass v1 yesterday, but it's not in my inventory, so I'm assuming I got a Blueprint, not the actual object? Will have to check.

I have a question though: on my first planet, it was freezing so my Temperature and Life Support would go down. I then went onto a moon, which was a nice temperature, but my Life Support was still going down. Is this normal? Maybe due to lack of oxygen? Or does it go down normally on any planet?

life support always seems to deplete/ go down no matter the planet. However, you then get other upgrades hat allow for different function for protection again radiation, a re-breather for under water exploration etc. Just build that additional component to support your life support system depending on the requirement per planet

Ah, thanks Tea I just thought I was bad at breathing or something hehe

One more thing, is it possible to unequip upgrades from my multitool? I crafted and equipped a BoltCaster and a Mining Upgrade, but now I've got no space left on it...

You have to dismantle them I think Prioritize what your mission objectives are and "build" the weapon around that. You do get weapons that are 10+ slots

Got a few screenshots to share

My first planet.

First Animal. Some sort of horned hippo

First monolith

First space station

First water planet

First sea creatures

The planet I am currently on. Its quite aggressive here with 2 predators. I have (uncreatively) named one "Green Nightmare". Don't have any good shots of it as I tried to keep away from it after it killed me

Looks like the over hype killed this game for some ppl. They expected a LOT more from the game.
The games all about exploration. To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life. To boldly go where no man(sky)has gone before.
Picking up my copy tomorrow can't wait
