Prince of Persia - The Warrior Within
As the only metroidvania-ish game in the trilogy, I still love it despite the weird tonal shift from the first. My younger self got lost at times when I first played it but, going back recently, the game always guides you on the right path if you pay attention (probably not my strong point). Loved the enhanced combat and gothic environments but, even if you don't branch off to get the life upgrades (annoyingly mandatory for the "canon" ending), the backtracking near the end does start begin to wear thin when you're encountering the rare respawning enemies in the exact same spots. The prince radiates juvenile angst and the female characters are scantily clad in a way that just wouldn;t fly these days, but the overall plot is pretty cool.
Prince of Persia - The Two Thrones
Finished it by means of playing half of it and then going on to YouTube. This is aweird one that find a balance between Sands of Time and Warrior Within, but then drags out levels to the point environments become boring, combat too repetitive, and it throws in awful checkpointing that'll have you repeating simple stealth sections before big brawls, or a ton of unchallenging platforming before a tricky seqeunce. My frustration threshold gets lower as I get older, and The Two Thrones pushed me too many times.
